For all the work you're doing you should grab the ARP head studs, especially if you're trying to enlarge the intake valves. Not cheap but a drop in the bucket compared to everything you've done so far.

You're right. And I should have mentioned that. I have a set of head studs sitting on the shelf. I'm hoping ARP will release the main studs soon. But I won't hold my breath.lol

Any chance to source aftermarket forged pistons for the 2.8? I have a suspected blown piston like everyone else with the 2.8. Injector over fuel…

Mahle will make you a custom set for around $2500. But unfortunately nobody makes a shelf stock piston for this motor as of today.

@@breoll86 Better to find a set of FM pistons than to use the high silicon content Mahle pistons, which are brittle and known to crack. "Dualoy" makes pistons for our engines, they are still cast, but stronger than factory Mahle, but they are money and require their matching rods as their wristpins are bigger, which seems like overkill as the stock pins are quite beefy! The problem is they are hard AF to get in the US. I think ya gotta source them out of Asia.

You have to purchase the cam and crank holding tools. Don't take the cam pulley off. It doesn't have a dowel to index it back together.

What about valves out of a jeep 2.8 cdi? They are both vm based engines.

You should reconsider getting different pistons had mine deleted only running a extra 20 hp and had pistons crack. 2.8 pistons can’t handle anything above stock.

I can get behind that. If they were more cost effective I would consider it. But honestly at this level, HP doesn't kill pistons, injection duration does. The stock injectors only have +20hp before you get into the danger zone. IMO
