■ SAIGON, VIETNAM: I flew to Vietnam with nothing more than the clothes I was wearing and a change of t-shirt and underwear. Top of my agenda was thus to scour through Saigon's famous 'fake' clothes market (Ben Thanh) for a 2nd, 3rd and 4th outfit. From Nike shoes, Tommy Hilfiger t-shirts and Calvin Klein underwear this market has it all.
So what do the products cost? What is the starting price? And what can for example a t-shirt be haggled down to? This and much more in episode one of my mega Vietnam fake market hunt.

No matter what country you are in, if you can get away with paying less than 5$ for a Dolce & Gabbana shirt or belt, you just KNOW that its fake. Every summer i have a small part time job at fairs, horsemarkets and markets in general, sniffing out fake, copy and pirate merchandise. everything from clothes to toys to consumables as ciggarettes, candy ect. Besides the quality on clothes maybe not sticking up after wash no 10, colours running and that sort.. when it comes to consumables its litterally a health risk, since copy brands in that catagory often can contain illegal and dangerous addatives. Yes even a thing as Rice is being faked.. Plastic rice is a real thing sadly.

It all makes sense when you look at a western economy like America. Americans are buying all kinds of shit locally that actually came from China, which they could have bought straight from China themselves for much cheaper like the people who sold it to them did. I do this sometimes and it's called ebay. In effect the huge local markups are there because Americans are willing to pay so much more to avoid having to wait. You could pay $1 and have to wait a couple weeks or you could walk right into the local store and get it for $10. Or you could buy a shit ton of it and wait, then resell it locally for 10x to people who didn't want to invest in that wait time. Then you have places like dollar stores who decided they would stock up on the mother load and only sell things they could acquire for pennies. That whole premise no longer existing would obliterate the economy. That means certain 'production' countries simply can't be allowed to raise their standards of living and certain 'consumer' countries can't be allowed to, for example, stop buying tons of shit every holiday. When the beneficiary of a western economy happens to grace the actual production lands you're damn right the merchants are going to throw in that tax.

@@2nyameddelanden no that ok I understand, but when I said that I feel jealous what I meant is that...my wish is to go on a world tour, and the wage in my country is way lower than any western first world countries, i am studying medicine and after I start my practice even then I believe it will still be quite difficult to travel like Harald.. I can only dream of going to places like singapore, italy, france, norway
