Thank you, Jay. I appreciate your encouraging words. It really is "the Indian and not the arrow". I've been teaching my son how to use the tools that we already have and not to waste his money on the "bigger and better" when what we have works. Hearing it from you actually made an impact on him. Thanks!

A huge thumbs up for your closing message, Jay. No tool is worth going into debt for. Think about it - people created for centuries before the invention of the power tool. What has changed? Our nature maybe. A person can develop excellent skills with common hand tools that rival the best power tool ever made. Just ask Paul Sellers. Those skills can later be put to use on a power tool, so it's never a waste of time to develop them. Great tour! Thanks for taking us along for the ride!

I'm learning a ton from watching woodworking on youtube, it almost seems superior to woodworking classes. You can look up how to's on how to build your next project before you do it, its very timely. I think I will need to hook up a smallish TV with a chromcast in my garage so I can review techniques as I'm working on them. Big thanks Jay and other woodworking youtubers.

Hey Jay, great video, I just wanted to make one suggestion/comment. I live/work in the Pacific Northwest and am 50+y.o.. When I decided to dedicate one stall of my garage to a wood shop the first thing I did was lay down a floor, to cushion my feet from the concrete. I used Delta FL dimpled plastic sheet material to lift the OSB T&G flooring off the concrete. Then I painted it primer gray and added non skid. I have to say this was a HUGE improvement in both physical comfort for my feet and my ability to heat the garage (critical for our cold winters). Anyway, again, thanks for great videos, really appreciate the time you take to put these on line.
@JayBates9 жыл бұрын
+Scott Bulger Thanks for the suggestion. But there's no way I'm moving my miter saw station just for the flooring benefit. And my floor is really uneven so sheets won't lay flat.

I actually really like starting out with a tool thats used and inexpensive. Jay, great video. It's exactly what i'd been looking for. It's as much a shop tour as it is a 'how you might want to set up your shop'. We just bought a house and I'm about to convert half the garage into a shop. Your shop is amazing =) I have been following you for a while now, and it is really impressing to see how far you have come. You have built it step by step, with your own two hands and hard work. You should be so proud! From a cheap mitersaw, to top of the class everything, with no debt. So glad to see there is still people who know the meaning of building a solid base, and then brick by brick, for something to last! Looking forward to see more from you, and best of luck further on =) Thanks for sharing your journey, and some great projects =)

Thanks Jay. I really enjoyed the video. I have almost the exact same size garage. I rewired it, though, and made extensive overhead storage (after re-enforcing the roof) and put in a wack of LED lighting. I have just finished, as you did, putting all the bid tools on casters and instantly had double the space even before organizing the little stuff. Also looking forward to being able to configure it for each job and not being locked into a fixed setup. If time allows, maybe I will start a channel and you and others can see it.

to be completely honest, when i saw it was just a shop tour and it was 23 minutes, i almost skipped it. when i hit play, i figured i would skip through it ... i ended up watching every second. my garage is really cluttered, and i really want to clean it up and organize it, and have started to many times. we have storage out there, and my wife has given me the green light to make a full shop. it's been over 100 degrees for weeks here and still hot before that, so i haven't spent much time out there lately. things always end up out there anyway, so right now it needs de-cluttered again. i actually really appreciated your comments about the harbor freight dust collector. i've been eyeing it for a year and not sure that i want to spent $200 on it. until i make a decision, i'll just keep sweeping piles that i suck up with my portable shop-vac. i've also saved up and been eyeing some bandsaws, including some from grizzly. your last comment was a good one too. debt sucks, and any good shop should be able to pay for itself. as soon as i got my first wood lathe, i made harry potter wands for my kids and that snowballed into making them from exotic hardwoods for friends and family and i found myself with spending cash for the shop over night.
