No matter how evil our lives have become, when we sincerely and humbly confess our sins, God will forgive us because of Christ’s cleansing blood. However, it is sometimes difficult for people to forgive themselves even though God has forgiven them. The reason why can vary, anywhere from not allowing one’s self to let go of the past and our part in it to the ‘accuser of the brethren’ whispering lies that we aren’t really forgiven so ‘why forgive yourself.’ Lack of willingness to forgive one’s self may be rooted in insecurity, but one must remember that when we say “I cannot forgive myself,” what we are, in essence, saying is that the blood of Jesus was not enough. Not forgiving one’s self after God has forgiven us is a form of pride and must be crucified. Thanks for the teaching, Dr. G.
