After been ill all last week (and this week) so I have been really looking forward to this one and it did not disappoint. Never seen that happen to a can before but after that build up the opening was a bit of a disappointment. You looked rough after that previous nights session the next morning mind lol but what a cracking day to go for a hike. The price of that ferry to Howtown has shot up mind, no early morning discount either, which we always went for. Beers, outside in a beer garden, in the Lakes, in the sun, with that scenery, absolutely heaven on earth, canny sarnies as well! DofE apart, I cannot believe that well known wildcamping spot was so quiet, my mate was there about a month ago and some moron had left a full tent, trashed, seats, mats the works, so him and his mate had to make two trips up and down to clean it all up. Despite the sun it looked dam chilly on the evening and given the year we have had so far the morning weather was not too bad. Great camp, good laugh and really perked me up a bit, cheers Alan

When I saw that vern 2 tent 🙄at the start of the video you had me reaching for the romote 😂. I would have been interested in your first impressions of that tent. (Not Review).. Don't think you need to test them, I think Vern 1 & 2 have already found there limits. Looks like you had a great weekend with the lads 😎. The highlight of the video for me wasn't camping at angle tarn, it was that beer garden, It certainly look idylic 👌😉

Had to go and try mate..... Mine is a large - lots of room in that. The Velez is cut quite high at the front too so it's weird - if you go XL to get a lower front, the jacket ends up hanging off - so just accepted that cut and went L

I decided to keep saving and get the soulo black label.. so I have been in touch with Taunton leisure and will hopefully have my new hilleberg in a few weeks... when you said you were getting a vern I somehow thought you were getting the vern1.... I moved to Paramo from Goretex years ago. One of my better decisions.

How do you find the difference mate? Would be interested in the detail?

Yeah I was swayed when I visited Skye and all the guides used Paramo and rated it the best for the climate up there so I bought a Velez like yours and I’ve had numerous Paramo models since, so has my wife and so has my walking buddy and we are all of the same thinking that they are the best hiking jackets out there. They are very comfortable and can actually be worn directly on bare skin. You don’t generally need a mid layer because they do run warmer than Goretex type jackets and they can take the role of a fleece due to the comfort. I guess though the best feature is their ability to feel comfortable even when sweating - something I always found Goretex to be bad for. They tend to dry out inside quicker. Also don’t be fooled thinking they are not as waterproof as Goretex because they are; the 3 layer thicker ones anyway, although I’m not as big a fan of the lighter single skin models which I don’t think match shell jackets for keeping the rain out. Another plus is their longevity: keep the regular washing and re-proofing going with Nikwax and they’ll see you good for years. The Alt3 is a fantastic winter jacket. Cons? Well not many but they are bulkier and heavier than shell jackets and probs not suited to running and high intensity sports but that’s about it really, I could honestly work in retail and sell them I’m that impressed. I’ve been using them for about 12 years BTW. I’ll keep a tab on your channel to check progress. Richard.

@2112Tix fantastic - thank you for all the info there. Funnily enough, on this hike - all I wore was a thin Aclima base layer and the Velez Smock - didn't overheat and didn't get too cold. Far more breathable than GoreTex. I guess the real test will be wind and rain, but I think if the rain is heavy enough, it will wet out just like my expensive Lhotse did - nothing is magical I guess. I look forward to further testing and thanks again for the really helpful response.

Looks like a great Lads trip this, Chris. That bar at the Howtown Hotel is great. I think it's the original Victorian or Edwardian room. Last time I was there the weather was a bit different from your trip and we had to shelter from a storm in the bar. I can think of worse places to hold up😂
