Speaking too much. You can not teach whole lessons before playing the pattern. Less speech, more playing.. Many drummers do this in KZbin videos.. this..

Yes, I have to agree. It's like learning to drive a car with a manual transmission from a book before you actually get behind the wheel, start the engine and let out the clutch, and kill the engine many times. All this talking makes it more complicated than it really is. This applies to anything. In sports, this would be called "paralysis by analysis" which can get you hurt. (This happens a lot in snow skiing. I would follow a great skier and imitate him/her without thinking. Then I would ask someone to explain the physics to me.) A lot of learning actually requires a stage of intentional NON-THINKING temporarily. Ya gotta play the rhythm first, WITHOUT thinking. When you get it down, then explain, then practice. Then eventually break it down. I've always been a visual learner and I've used my technique to teach classes of many different subjects, physical and mental in fields of vocational, sports, education and others with great success. This is not my opinion, this is actual experience with results. His other videos are so much better than this, I'm not sure if they were made before or after this. In the others, he has wonderful sections of "letting it flow" and then explaining. This video is somewhat disappointing. I love his drumming!
