This is what it's all about - getting better together. Thanks for Masteringbox - I installed it right away. Also, garageband has a mastering feature now and I believe the Magix suite for the PC also has something. But I gotta say that despite the hype about Landr, in 8 out of 10 cases I prefer the result from Bandlab. But landr has an awesome blog explaining how to prepare your track for mastering. Headroom and all. I quote some of it in my video's description text and link to it from there

Although this is a very helpful tip, one must also understand it comes down to speakers and headphones/earbuds. And I have also noticed that different converters, devices and even websites where you upload your music can make your song sound significant different. But nevertheless, another cery useful video Tom!
@TomZMusic6 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right Jessica - the device used for listening is paramount. To me this is the main genius of a mastering engineer - anticipating and making a song sound great in a club, on a crappy kitchen or car radio, on headphones and phone speakers. A good song will always sound good. You are also correct that the website used can make a difference. I did a lot of experiments with youtube, for example. how does youtube change the sound of your song when you upload the video. There are nuances, but again, the mastering ensures that the overall balance of the song is done in a way that no matter what compression algorithm is thrown at it by a website, the mix will be tight. I like that about it. Nuances like this I obviously had to omit making this video because I wanted to keep it concise. Even at that duration I am very curious to see my youtube analytics statistics in 2 or 3 days to see how the drop off rate is and where people dropped off. In my experience, a lot of people are not patient to digest the facts. So I am fully prepared that my geek segment about leaving "headroom" towards the end of the video will suffer from high drop-off rates :-)
@jessicanyqvist31896 жыл бұрын
Well to be honest, I can admit I don't always watch a full video of anything, because I have the disorder ADD (attention deficit disorder) so I have extreme difficulties to keep focus. It's very annoying even if it's a video about a subject I do find interesting. But nothing I can really control if my mind and body says "move on" I have to, otherwise there will be trouble lol. Also, I remember the days when we used to record with different bands I use to play in. We always had to go back to the studio to make new remixes because it could sound really good in one system, just to sound bad in another and so on, and you had to find a middle ground. I have also noticed that in mmj itself, it sounds different from the actual project file to the recording itself, so it's really really difficult to find that sweet spot, especially in my case, who lacks 90% hearing on my right ear, and 10% in my left.
@TomZMusic6 жыл бұрын
You are excused from watching till the end with ADD :-) Even in MMJ there is another difference: The recording sounds different from the track once it's uploaded.
@jessicanyqvist31896 жыл бұрын
Ohh, thank you lol xD And yes, I have sometimes heard that as well and my thought around that has always been that the hard compression ratio was due to save space. But if I am right in this, that is complete guess on my part lol.
