I use to use the two hand backhand in tennis but never got a hold of in Pickleball but after watching your videos have been trying it lately and loving it :-). Thanks for all the videos. Can you please make a video on how to hit 4th shot against a perfect drop at the corner of the court on my backhand, where do I return/dink back on the court. So when you do the "twerk motion" with both wrists going in opposite directions, how is your paddle face angled? Is it angled in a closed position (face pointing down) or in a closed position (face pointing up)? Also, about how sharply is it angled degree wise?
@tanner.pickleball11 ай бұрын
I would say it is angled down slightly. Not much.

This is great. Few things I want to seek your views: 1) Observing Riley Newman and several top female pros, there's a lot of backhand speedups where they do not turn their bodies. Is this just a more risky shot so you don't recommend? 2) I can hit very aggressive low/flat 1h backhand dinks. Would you recommend going for 2h dinks still or stick with what's already working well? I see BJ doesn't use 2h backhand dinks very often either and I'm mimicking his dinking game
@tanner.pickleball Жыл бұрын
Hi Geoffrey thanks for the question! This is what I have found works best, I know what you are saying with riley and the other women. For the majority of players, I think turning sideways adds the highest level of disguise. Secondly, dinking is all about consistency, do what makes you the most consistent!
@fe0g Жыл бұрын
@@tanner.pickleball In my session yesterday, forced myself to only use 2h backhand drops, dinks, drives etc. -Found that drops from baseline was extremely good. Unattackable drops that looked high but quickly falls in to the kitchen. -Dinks were less consistent as they often went a little harder than my typical 1h dinks -Drives were the hardest for me (perhaps from a table tennis and squash background). Especially when on service returns where serves are extremely low, I think I have to get way lower for the paddle to be under the ball. Much easier to do this with forehand with the same implementation

Hey Tanner, you seemed to love the Hyperion C2. Why did you bail on it for the Engage?
@tanner.pickleball Жыл бұрын
I loved it! Sadly after 3 weeks, it delaminated and it failed testing at the PPA Daytona. We qualified for the main draw, then I was not allowed to use it. If it is a common issue I cannot use that paddle if I have to swap when I qualify! So I tried a different brand!
@shipwreck8847 Жыл бұрын
@@tanner.pickleball Oh that makes sense. I can't believe it delaminated that quickly and from such a new release. There's like no reviews on that paddle. I've been curious about it. You should have a mirrored video on the right side for rightys and your normal video on the left side for leftys. I'm always so backwards when I watch your left hand content 🤣
@tanner.pickleball6 ай бұрын
Noted! heheh
@gypsyjazzclass30772 күн бұрын
I like this guy but keep in mind he says a lot of definitive things (never and always comments) about this or that being the way to do things and they are frequently his way of doing things not necessarily the standard way other pros teach or perform these shots. IE your front foot can point in one direction as a body fake and then you can pull the ball in another direction. If you're a righty hitting a two handed backhand topspin dink at the net your left hand can accelerate up and turn over near your shoulder for more spin. Once you get the topspin and learn to brush up on the ball you can dink straight with topspin (difficult for sure but an option). Just have a few sources to make sure you get what works for you.
