Thank you Karina, I'm not familiar with the real estate in Algarve. Regarding opening a Portuguese Bank account from USA that would only be possible if you are a Portuguese National. Otherwise you have options with having the WISE bordless account and also Revolut. You can open those in US and redraw money in Portugal in Euros at lower fees. All the best !

Alentejo ain't overlooked, it's just way overpriced most of the times, hence rich people chose Algarve, for obvious reasons, while the less fortunate look at plots around Castelo Branco, where you can get 2ha for the same price as the property listed here. Sadly.
