I got this game at Christmas in 2012. When life was so uncomplicated and my little brother and I would play for the entire day and in between courses of our christmas dinner.

As a kid, I spent hours looking into that light wondering what other universe was out there. I looked at the planet where that light’s horizon is and wondered if it was actually a planet filled with life or a deep ocean full of all sorts of exotic life. I looked up at the sky and wondered if every star looked like the light in this image if we somehow got closer… Then you grow up and learn how games are made. Sure, I knew it was all pixels, but if I could take Mario out there what would I find? The answer is just a couple of meters of space until I hit a wall realizing the light, the planet, the stars, everything was a picture. Even though I always knew they were pixels, finding out that all that promise of exploration was but a facade crushed me growing up. It killed all my childhood imagination and taught me that a lot of the most promising things in life were just a mirage. The silver lining is that there are still something’s in life that look like this picture and when you pursue it, you’ll find so much to explore. You can visit each star, explore that planet/ocean/void, or chase the light till your hearts content… That’s what this game did for me

Birth theme always manages to make me cry :( I wish I could tell everyone how special this game is to me.
