I mainly learned Russian with news articles. So, when this video started with level 0 1, absolute beginner, I thought, wow, that seems complicated... fortunately, at level 4, advanced, I suddenly began to feel comfortable. 😂😂😂 But seriously, I like the dialogues, they contain very useful words. For anyone struggling at first, I suggest to open the transcript, copy the text into Google Translate, Yandex or whatever, look up words and listen to the A.I. generated voices first.

To anyone that is getting demotivated listening to this. To be clear this is not absolute beginner's. I've cleared 670 hours of Russian and I can keep up with it but still don't understand everything. Come back to it when you're intermediate level

any advice? started learning one month ago, picking the basics up fairly quickly.
@mcmaggotsherbel75455 жыл бұрын
@@CodeCommand Hey man, I know you asked this 3 months ago, so you have most likely improved a lot already, but this is what has helped me a lot these past months: I learned the basics of the 6 cases using Tuchka Cloud - google it, its a grammar practising tool. Then I read a lot of beginner text and translated any words that I didn't know - this meant huge amounts of translating and could be somewhat annoying but I just grinded through these texts. Then I put typed in stuff like A2 level Russian conversation on youtube and listen to many many recordings and whatever you can find. It was often frustrating, but I now actually understand 80% of this video after about 5 months serious dedication (3-4 hours a day of studying). Also: I read through word frequency lists of vocabulary, just to have seen a word and its meaning for the first time. Then I just read texts and the words will appear again in these texts and I might have forgotten them - but it won't be the very first time that I have seen them so if I then check the translation again - they stick very good. My final advice: I treat studying somewhat like for example bodybuilding. Actually see your Russian practicing as if you are doing reps. If you do many reps - you will get better. Like in bodybuilding you do like 3 sets of 10 reps for many months and after months you will see good results! But doing just 1 exercise for a few reps here and there won't build any muscle! That is what I mean with grinding exercises, just do a lot of 'reps' and you will get there soon enough!

You must be a fairly slow learner Matt, this is pretty basic stuff. Nearly two hours a day for a year and you're not all over it. Inefficient.
@mattrichards70304 жыл бұрын
@ thanks for your opinion but I don't agree with you regarding inefficient. At 670hrs I understood virtually every bit of these dialogues word for word barring a few words or verbs here and there. At this time i was also able to hold decent conversations with russian language partners and had a vocabulary capacity of over 3000 words plus a grasp of most of the grammatical topics and hours and hours of listening and put me at intermediate level. This result at this time was an above average pace according to my Russian teacher. Russian isn't my first attempt at mastering a foreign language either so I've refined and optimised my language learning methods over time. Perhaps a more constructive comment from you would be to offer others some insights into your language learning methods. I'm also open to learning how you structure your learning as you sound like you've grasped things quicker than most.

@@mattrichards7030 Is that 670 hours of instruction? Or does that figure include reading on your own, listening on your own, watching films, etc,? Because if it's 670 hours of instruction, yes, you are not too bright.

Too all the noobs out there: You don't need to understand words in order to "gain" something from these lessons. You train your brain to focus and decipher the words at tempoand eventually you will hear sentences without trying.

@@vaderetro264 Over at Scientific American Mind, Veronique Greenwood shares two studies that offer some good news to language learners everywhere. Both studies, one from the Journal of Acoustical Society of America and the other from the Journal of Memory and Language, suggest that listening to the language you’re studying outside of your normal study time can speed up the learning process. Basically, your brain is capable of paying attention to things you’ve already intentionally paid attention to. Your brain becomes more capable of passively looking for words and phrases you’ve studied, and that strengthens your mental grip on what you’ve learned-even if it’s just something you’re hearing in the background.

Russian people will speak at about this pace in real life, so you might as well get used to it right away. Also, you do have the phrases written down as well, so try to focus more on just figuring out how those phrases are composed instead of worrying too much about "solving the riddles".
