Learn how to make realistic stones from cheap Dollar Tree foam board. These stones could be used on the exterior of a dollhouse, a stone wall, patio, or chimney.
Transform a cheap battery-operated tea light from the dollar store into a realistic fire pit complete with burned, ashy logs & flickering flames. There are so many tips & tricks to see!
Some of my favorite things:
Double-sided flooring tape
amzn.to/423tJwL
Miter Shears: these are the clippers I use to cut pieces of wood and toothpicks, etc
amzn.to/3sQJnhe
Dirty Down Rust Effect paint
amzn.to/3xjxOBu
Oyu Pla/Oyumaru reusable mold putty
amzn.to/44KaaJz
Cheaper, clear mold putty I haven't tried
amzn.to/45JiAlB
2 oz bottle of Diamond Glaze
amzn.to/3zmMLR1
8 oz bottle of Diamond Glaze
amzn.to/3zpiMbm
Heat gun: I use mine to quickly dry paint, soften the glue to dismantle furniture, and quickly cure polymer clay without an oven. It gets a lot hotter than a hair dryer.
amzn.to/3YBAIcH
Craft heat gun that doesn't get as hot as mine
amzn.to/3ZZ5wWe
Paper fasteners & 1/8" hole punch

Another way to make flames is to squeeze out flame shapes of hot glue on a silicone mat (or a piece of hard plastic) and color them with alcohol inks when they're cooled. (Stick the whole thing in the freezer for a few minutes to speed the cooling process.) I drop just a tiny drip of ink on the glue and then quickly wipe it with a torn piece of paper towel or napkin - the torn edge helps to feather the ink. To attach them just add a little more hot glue to the bottom edge and press in place. Your firepit turned out great! Can't wait to see where it ends up.

This turned out brilliantly, I already have a well in my diorama so this would be a great addition as medieval people had to heat water for washing, both themselves and clothing etc, so this is perfect, I just have to work out how they suspend things over fires because I think wooden tripods would burn? I could be wrong however lol!

This is so cool, i have been looking for a technique to add stones to the outside of my dolls house and this may be the winner. Seriously this little stone fire looks so realistic
@queencityminis
@queencityminis 4 ай бұрын
I definitely suggest it! I recommend trimming the foam core to fit on the house, holding it temporarily with tape, tracing the stones where the corners meet, but doing most of the shaping with the foam board detached. It's a lot easier to work on a tabletop vs vertical walls.

Another great vid and learned something again! I always check out Poundland (here in UK) and the larger stores/supermarkets for 'out of season' fairy and tea lights which is especially good when starting out. Hope to progress onto wiring my own lighting set ups in the future. Tea lights certainly help enhance miniature structures that would otherwise be somewhat lifeless; if ya get me drift?! I used one in a Celtic roundhouse I made (apart ffrom the tea light, all from scratch) and it really looks like someone's home! Thanks again for sharing! ❤

That's genius 😃. It looks so realistic. Where are you going to put it? I want to thank you for your brilliant videos and soothing voice. I was feeling a little bit stressed a week ot so ago. I binge watched some of your videos and I felt a lot better afterwards. I've been checking your channel for the last few days to see if a new video had been made. Thank you 😊

As for where I'll put it, I have no plans for it. I just wanted to try this out. I've seen a fire pit tea light before, but it was very simple.

@@queencityminisaw good luck with the move! I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I saw a video of someone making a kit of a 'cat cafe garden' and all I kept thinking was "Shyra would make this look so nice" 😄. I would love to see you make one 😊

I'm not a miniaturist but I love, love, love your creativity, humor and especially your skill, attention to detail and your ability to bring your scenes to life with those tiny extras. I do a lot of other crafts and I have learned so many new skills from you that I now apply. I am the recent, very happy owner of my first heat gun and set of 123 blocks. I don't know how I lived (or crafted) without them. I've tried my hand at paint "washes" and popsicle stick floors. I'm getting better with practice! I'm so glad that your videos popped up as a suggestion.

If you spray the foam-core with rubbing alcohol, enough to just dampen the paper, it will peel off in one sheet. Handy tip I use; unfortunately I cannot remember where I got it, so I cannot give them credit.
