Thank you for your insightful understated humour, Henry.I am grateful that God still loves his chosen people, the Jews, and has not changed his mind. I am also thankful as a Gentile Christian that I have been grafted in and not replaced the Jews. Supersessionism, which is a root of antisemitism, is a heresy that all Christians need to reject.

Great lecture, as always! A little correction: the first "Ecclesia et Synagoga" shown, which is the most famous, is from the cathedral Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, and it's actually the second which is from Notre-Dame de Paris, the one which partially burnt in 2019.

In totally of the initial circumstances could Yeshua Bar Josef really be considered the "founder"? My perception has always been that the focus was other Jews.

The very fact that the Synod wrote Canon 16 implies that people of Spain commonly did all the things the canon sought to ban.

I don’t know that the Church ever had a problem with Jews owing non Jewish slaves . The iterations of the Jewry law I think are explicit in this drawing a sharp contrast with the forbidden ownership of Christian slaves . But at times even the latter was loosely enforced with for instance Gregory the Great refusing to to order the manumission of some Christian slaves held temporarily for trade . And Jewish owned pagan slaves ( usually Slavs ) were not permitted to run away to the church and convert in order to free themselves. Often if Jews were forced to give up Christian slaves they were to be sold to Christians as slaves ( under the circumstances I’m guessing at a discount)

@@HenryAbramsonPhD my understanding is that Abogard’s ideas about Jews were rejected forcefully by the Carolingians and never were adopted into canon law.

You’re getting closer . It was often asserted that Christianity became the official state religion in 380 under emperor Theodosius (not a son of Constantine). It is now recognized that even then , a small number of pagan practices were tolerated despite Christianity’s favorable and official status . But it is true that Constantine was a Christian as far as we know and certainly favored the Church himself and began the process of granting it various exemptions and benefits .

Great lecture but a little off about Paul. The apostles basically require gentiles to be noahides plus a few mitzvot like avoiding idolatry, eat kosher, etc.

Thank you this is an interesting perspective. Your lectures popped up as I was researching my Separdic heritage. I am saddend many people only have a secular or Catholic {replacement theology} veiw of Christianity . Most people also do not seem to have any knowledge of the Jewish people or religion at all outside of hollywood depictions. I don't see any replacement theology when reading both the Jewish or the Christian scriptures. Why would you reject the roots? When I read I only see G-d seeks our hearts and we should seek H-s as well. Please know there are those who that love, respect and are thankful for you. I'm courious where do you think gentiles fit in like Ruth and Rahab or Melchizedek and Othniel? Sorry I wish the term Roman Catholics was used rather than bunching it all under the term Christians in these lectures however it is understandable why you would see it that way. We all need to remember history is important and we need to learn from that even if it is ugly. I'm glad to see people learning. Keep seeking, asking questions, learning and teaching.

Hi Dr. Abrahamson, how do you explain the vision that Paul had? Why would a Pharisee do a complete 180 from persecuting Christians to becoming one?

Question: It appears Muslims and Jews have the same one God belief and Christians have to go through Jesus, so what do you think if God had allowed the Muslim faith to appear prior to the Christian faith and what would the world be like or no difference?

The idea that Paul (Shaul) of Tarsus didn’t obey Torah by promoting against the circumcision and the kosher dietary laws is nothing short of a terrible misinterpretation of his letters. He, in fact, expresses emphatically throughout his writings that he upholds Torah law and speaks highly of it. An example of this is that He himself got into a nazarite vow and even bore the costs for the sacrifices than others had to offer at the end of their purification period. The way Paul's writings had been distorted and taught throughout the centuries by the catholic and the protestant christian church is the product of the manipulations of the original christian faith in the hands of the newly converted Constantine in the 4th century, who self appropriated these concepts and adapted them and intermingled them to their roman pagan religion. Careful study of the Tanach and the Renewed Covenant writings (aka New Testament) in its hebrew context clearly shows that both compilations of scripture don't contradict each other but actually complement and fulfill each other.

I really enjoy your lectures and am learning so much. Of course, I know that you mean that Jesus is the founder of Christianity. I like to think of him as the Lion of the Tribe of Juda (Revelation 5:5). But no no no you Israelis/Israelites are still the Chosen People of God, I don't believe in replacement theology; the Lord will keep his promises to Abraham and to Israel. But we Gentiles who are undeserving of God's blessings have been shown grace and mercy and are reaping the blessing as seen in the following verse. Genesis 22:18 "And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice." Genesis 12:3 says, "And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” God bless his Chosen People, Israel, and we who have been grafted in!

Exoterically, Christianity is an off-shoot of Judaism, but only exoterically. Esoterically, however, it's a mystery Greek cult of death and resurrection in the line of Orpheus or Dionysus, plus some other today exotic ingredients as a syncretic religion and rendition of universal wisdom.

This reading of the data is not viewed as favorably in academia as it once was . Not that certain sectors don’t hold to it. And there are grains of truth in an otherwise largely off the mark understanding. Just FYI

@@toddvoss52 ¿Who cares what Cacademia wants to think? Anyone acquainted with the history of official thought and doctrine throughout history in any are of knowledge knows that the institutions were often wrong and stubborn. Those decrying the proposal of Jesus as myth have a vested interest in doing so, Many come from Chrisitan institutions. The question would be why do they think so or say they think so.
