The entrance exam is definitely overrated, so much so that I have even come across alumni of IITs who rever the entrance exam more than the coursework and faculty at IIT. What one does at IIT or in his profession matters more than the score in an MCQ examination, which unfortunately many fail to understand.

All I've mentioned is after entering IIT, one should not just keep holding to their JEE success. But instead should focus on progressing next, be at IIT or their profession. Entering into IIT and resting can't be the ultimate goal is what I've meant, so much so that some rever it like winning a Nobel prize.

This is applicable to all. Just now the director told atleast you need to be strong in science and maths from 9th std.
