As a master's degree former prof. in early childhood development, I have to say this Dad intuitively knows how to interact w. his baby! It's what I have coined "reflective vocalization". He echoes her attempts at vocalizing, allows for a pause, and then modifies it slightly. So gratifying. She is literally testing the range and flexibility of her larnyx, and getting loving positive feedback in the process. Well done!!

Best thing is to speak actual words back to baby. Those vocalization that baby's make is them trying to learn speech, mostly by imitation of the language they hear around them. The process starts very early!
