So I’ve been using the base $1599 M3 14-inch MacBook Pro for around two months and so for those wondering whether this is worth buying, here’s my long term review and how this has been for my usage, with only 8GB of RAM.

It’s still stupid because it looks worse and only exists for branding- which has only been cemented in my mind due to apple failing to provide Face ID (which I don’t even care about) to somewhat justify it.

@@mootsym Fair fair, I don't disagree with that. Ideally I would love if Apple just got rid of the webcam altogether and made us rely on Continuity Camera instead (which is what I use by default anyways because the quality's better), but there would definitely be an outrage if that happened.

@@SaranByte There probably would be outrage, but Apple would act like it's the greatest thing ever and try to convince us of the same- just as they did with the notch. I expect the VAST majority of people who spend stupid amount of money on Macbooks also use an iphone.. so should have no real issue using it for webcam stuff--- which.. i also don't know what percentage of Macbook users also use the webcam more than once/year. Plus- the phone provides better camera and audio quality. A notchless Macbook would be so lovely. Under the screen Face ID has been rumored to not be too far away.. so... that would be nice. No notch + adding Face ID.

Still love your videos. A video idea would be a wishlist in order of most desirable to least, of your top 10 upgrades you’d like to see with M4 MacBook Pro, and then discuss the likelihood of those things. I’d love for every tech youtuber to make a video like that. I just want more standard ram and storage. On principle alone, the disrespect with the pricing is ludicrous. Could buy 1TB Samsung T7 for $85.. yet apple has the balls to charge us $200 for 500gb. Seriously. Apple doesn’t have a choice to up the storage to 1tb, OR cut the price for upgrades. Same for ram. 24gb should’ve been where M3 pro started instead of 18.. so M4 should be 24. But we know it won’t cuz apple. But surly… certainly.. they won’t stay at 18 again? Right? Watch them. So.. I’ll “wish” for 20gb standard .. just another 2gb. But they stayed at 16 for 2 years.. So I bet they’ll stay at 18 for 2yrs and maybe bump the base model to 10. You have to temper your expectations with Apple, even if all the sense in the world would justify said expectations.. you have to view it through the lens of apple greed and disrespect.

Sure, I've noted that down - will try and make a wishlist soon 👍 As for RAM and storage, you're completely right. It's the one thing that sets this machine back and they're really pushing the limits of brand loyalty right now - I'm hoping things change and at the very least, we see 16GB of RAM as standard with M4.

I know ray tracing was an upgrade we got with M3 but as I said I don't play games ever. I'm just not a gamer so there's no point in me testing that aspect when I likely wouldn't be able to give you the info you want regarding that. There are other creators that have covered that aspect in detail. For me, I generally look at the average consumer's perspective and there is a large section of consumers like me who don't game and my review is intended for that userbase. This is a review of the base model after all.
