Beavers fan here. I watched this game in real time last year and was just talking about it to my friends last night. Whattaya know, it shows up today in the KZbin algorithm. I'm reading the comments about how crazy this game was, but as a fan of the losing team, I have never been more frustrated watching a game in my life. I put 10,000 steps on my odometer pacing my living room watching the 9th inning collapse. I had to crack a beer just to calm myself down. This game was the nuttiest game I have ever seen and I was surprised at the time it didn't get more attention.

They’ve made a rule in recent years that with runners on base, if a pitcher steps off of the rubber, he must make an “attempt” to pick a runner, even if its as simple as faking a throw to second base. Its a dumb rule, but it is what it is.

You have to make a motion to throw towards a base. It’s a pace of play rule to keep pitchers from stalling

It shouldn’t be a balk though, it just be a pitch clock violation resulting in a warning or a ball. That’s how it’s ruled in DIII at least

There is no hard rule on the balk, anything "deceptive" by a pitcher can count. I never cared for that rule. That all said, it wouldn't have changed the outcome in this game...that last OSU pitcher was serving up meatballs to the plate.

I saw the score was 19-10 in favor of Oregon State, and I thought to myself, ”That is a high score, and UCLA aren’t going to win.” The next time I called the score update, it was 21-12. Then, it was 21-18. So, I thought to myself, “UCLA have a chance.” Finally, I got home and decided to check the score, and I saw UCLA had won.

I was expecting a high-scoring affair like the 1 I saw @ Arizona State where we won 13-11 against USC (Jack Del Rio, for good measure, got thrown out of the game for arguing a 3rd strike on him). This was off the chain though. UCLA scores 25 runs despite only 3 extra-base hits!

Ncaa made a rule where the ball must be shown when you step off with runners on. They must at the very least, pump fake when stepping off. Looks like the pitcher forgot to and realized it and showed the ball but in umpires judgement it was too little too late. Good call based on the ruling… that being said, i hate the rule.

A balk? The pitcher faking a throw to an unoccupied base (unless the runner is advancing to that base) is a balk, however, he stepped back off the rubber and was merely a fielder when he feigned to second. Did the NCAA change the rules? I don't get it.
