This is the fifth of Arjun’s sixteen questions. Shree Krishna praised both the renunciation of works and work with devotion. Arjun is confused by these apparently equivocal instructions and wishes to understand which of the two is more auspicious for him.

BG 5.1: Arjun said: O Shree Krishna, You praised karm sanyās (the path of renunciation of actions), and You also advised to do karm yog (work with devotion). Please tell me decisively which of the two is more beneficial?
The first chapter described the nature of Arjun’s grief and created the setting for Shree Krishna to begin to relate spiritual knowledge to him. In the second chapter, Shree Krishna revealed to Arjun the science of the self and explained that since the soul is immortal, nobody would die in the war, and hence it was foolish to lament. He then reminded Arjun that his karm (social duty) as a warrior was to fight the war on the side of righteousness. But, since karm binds one to the fruits of actions, Shree Krishna encouraged Arjun to dedicate the fruits of his works to God. His actions would then become karm-yog, or “united with God through works.”
In the third chapter, the Supreme Lord explained that performing one’s duties is necessary because it helps to purify the mind. But He also said that a person who has already developed purity of mind is not obliged to perform any social duty (Bhagavad Gita Verse 3.17).
In the fourth chapter, the Lord explained the various kinds of sacrifices (works that can be done for the pleasure of God). He concluded by saying that sacrifice performed in knowledge is better than mechanical ritualistic sacrifice. He also said that all sacrifice ends in the knowledge of one’s relationship with God. Finally, in verse 4.41, He introduced the principle of karm sanyās, in which ritualistic duties and social obligations are renounced and one engages in devotional service with the body, mind, and soul.
These instructions perplexed Arjun. He thought that karm sanyās (renunciation of works) and karm-yog (work in devotion) have opposite natures, and it is not possible to perform both simultaneously. Hence, he raises his doubt before Shree Krishna.

Today's Quiz: What is the difference between Karma Sanyaas and Karma Yog?

Karmyog means working in devotion for supreme lord and karma sanyas means complete renunciation of worldly obligation and only discharging spiritual obligation

Karma yog means people doing their duties in prescribed dharmic manner and not bothering about consequences. For example, a father's duty is to grow his children by preaching them good values, etiquette, manners and providing good education, good shelter, good food. How the children perceive totally rest upon them and father is not responsible if children perceive wrongly. Father is also responsible to tame children and bring them to the righteous path if they trumble away and indulge in mischievous things and again it depends on how children perceive and respond and father is not responsible for consequences. Father is still bound to take dharmic action if his children go against the dharmic way and become a burden and enemy to the entire world torturing other living beings. This process is karma yog. Karma sanyas means renouncing worldly pleasures and travelling in path to attain God and focusing their mind and intellect in gathering ways to know nature of God, his personality etc and loving God totally, surrendering to God and finding ways to attain him sacrificing all worldly pleasures.

Like how Google map shows various routes to reach a particular place from our current location, karma yog and karma sanyas are two paths to reach God. It is not possible for every human being to become karma sanyas as God has bestowed some responsibilities to every human to perform, its duty of karma yog to perform their responsibility according to dharmic rules by renouncing his pleasures on end result by not bothering about consequences. This is one way to attain God because we totally surrender to god and leave the consequences to him and accept whatever he gives to us for performing duties bestowed by him on us. Secondly karma sanyas sacrifice their worldly duties to attain god by performing thapas, yaagya, meditation, by renouncing them totally from world. Though they live in this world they live like they are away from this world. Both lead us to the same destination which is attaining god's Lotus feet.

Karm yogi is one who is while living in the world is engaged in spiritual sadhana. Whereas karma sanyasa is renouncing the world and is only engaged in spiritual sadhana.❤

Completely renouncing the worldly duties when one remains engaged solely in spiritual sadhana, it is Karma Sanyasa. Keeping the mind constantly in God when one performs his worldly duties with the body, it is Karma Yoga.

I think the Supreme Lord has given more importance to KARMA YOGA rather than KARMA SANYAS YOGA.Lord has emphasized that once born in this world, nobody can avoid one' s worldly duties. He being the Supreme Personality of Godhead, has no work to do but has to work for the welfare of mankind.HareKrishna🙏🙏🙏

Sir JATAKA TALES story 100, page 259 Rama-pandit says IPERMANENCE OF THINGS. This is Buddha saying. Ramayan Mahabharat Bhagavad Gita Upanishads certainly must have been written 500-1000 years later.
