good analysis. I love how people say 3 weeks without food in survival situation but try go without eating for 2 days. If you are not accustomed to going without for for a few days it will effect you. I am not saying it will outright kill you but any distraction you can lessen the less likely you will make mistakes and have the ability to think more clearly.

I think the people saying this is way over priced, haven't put much together on survival gear. All the bags and organizing gear itself is extremely expensive. As is the, food, sleeping bags, cooking gear. It's very well thought out as a practical solution, and easy to find what you need. You can totally upgrade things but you are pretty set.

I live on the gulf coast, my grab and go hurricane bag I put together was a lot less than 500 bucks.. I 'll say ditch the head lamp, get the nite-eyes head band that holds a 3a or 2a flashlight. On that note, Coast has a G19 single 3a that is great for EDC and is about 10.00, and the HX5 in the 20.00 range, is a single 2a light that will run on standard 1.5v, 1.3 v rechargeable, and the 14500 3.7v lithium rechargeable. I also keep cash in my grab and go bag, 200.00 in small bills, and have a prepaid debit card in the truck glove box with my insurance and registration. I will say it is best to forget about the cash you keep in the bag, and forget about the prepaid card you keep in the vehicle. They are for emergency use only. It does not take a lot of effort to put together a grab and go bag, and you can do it cheaper than one you can buy. Also, you can build it to your environment. Not everyone lives on the coast, some live where blizzards, tornados, wildfires, flash flooding, etc. are the hazards.

Nice kit to start. But your right, add a lighter and some uco storm matches in a waterproof case. Instead of box of matches. As to adding a fire steel ( I would add one ) But most people who would buy a kit like this don't know how to use it so lighter would be better. Adding a better knife like a Mora is also a good idea. I would add a few disposable poncho 's as well. Add in a head lamp or one of those small lanterns and a four pack of esbit tablets to useif sterno runs out and maybe a few tea candles. Plus small hygiene kit. Small tooth brushes and paste , small soap and mirco towel. That would make it usable for a larger number of non preppers. They are the real target of this product. The something is better than nothing crowd. Which I guess is a better mindset than the it will never happen crowd. :)

You are so so right when you say you think food is under rated. Just having a hot meal can be a huge morale boost, that boost can go a long way in helping you get through a tough survival situation. Everybody thinks, no problem I will just catch and process food no problem. Well take it from a person who was in a survival situation in the Canadian Yukon wilderness when I say good luck with that. I am a private pilot. While flying in the Canadian Yukon I lost an engine and went down in the Yukon mountains. I did have survival equipment on board but lost two 3rds of that equipment in the fire that resulted from the crash.

Looks like a well rounded kit for realistic emergencies. The dry bag is a big win, a lot of emergencies do involve your equipment being subjected to foul weather. Not much worse than opening up your survival bag only to find everything saturated with water. The organization is a big win too, in emergencies its not just your fine motor skills that can be lost but critical thinking skills can be suppressed too. For the price I think there can be a lot of upgrades that would make it better and easier to justify the cost.
@stormpacks30365 жыл бұрын

I appreciate the review...the waterproof bag idea is excellent, but sure would like to see what the backpack looks like and if the items were organized similarly in it. Also, did you mention the weight? If so, I missed it! I do agree, some things are a bit low cost, like the knife, and the flashlight...a headlamp, battery operated would be a great addition. Meals are adequate for the intended usage time, but for us diabetic people, I would chose different energy bars, with a lot less sugar! I know sugar gives energy, but for me, sugar could give serious health problems. This kit for two is decent and with some mild customizing, in the same amount of space, could be very handy, even for an outdoorsman ( which I ain't), but am a life long learner. Thanks for the good review! Personally, I will stick to my customized 72-hour ALICE pack! Including the pack and all my gear, I got less than $210 in it.

Great video Tim. While I truly appreciate the concept (and liked your thoughts on optional items to add), I almost fell out of my chair when you said the price. For that amount they really need to tighten up a few items. The "essentials" section needs a different blade, a better multi-tool, and something to replace those bracelets. There are many inexpensive lighting options that would be a huge improvement as well (headlamp as you mentioned). The First Aid section should have at least a Swat T tourniquet. Other than that, I think they could be more realistic on the price. I think it would be over priced at $250, let alone $499. Again, great video though.

I also have a Kelly Kettle and plenty of food and water I keep in the car. There's of course a change of clothes and shelter and car battery charger, tire inflator, shovel, hatchet, flares, blankets, and a GHB of course!

Missing some basic stuff that would definitely help. 2-3 contractor bags per person. Obvious, "storm." This would help water proof stuff, they would be good as makeshift tarps, etc. Also, some duct tape would be helpful for general shelter repair (including your house should you hunker down) One ultralight tarp would be decent. A firesteel would be awesome. But this thing is really missing a couple disposable ponchos. Yes, they kinda suck. But this is made for a storm. At some point you may have to go outside. During a storm. A poncho would be wonderful.
@darthblade20165 жыл бұрын
Good review and discussion about, I think u hit on most of the points. Someone mentioned it below and I agree, but that small "survival tool kit" is pretty sad, especially for the price they're charging. Swap out that tool kit for budget options for the knife, flashlight and compass, then I think it's decent. Adding some Paracord and dropping the price down to $300 I think would be reasonable for someone who just wants a kit without doing the research and finding their own stuff. Not for every person, but with some tweaks, this could be a solid option for premade.
@PaulLeach1234 жыл бұрын
Great organization to this bag. I have a 2 person bag I made, and yes, you can get what’s in the storm packs collectively off Amazon for probably around $200 total, but what you’re really paying for is the clear labeling and organization. My bags have a lot of loose stuff and I even bought some canvas pouches and some custom Velcro patches to better organize. With this, it’s well thought out and well organized. Ye, it needs a better knife, rechargeable lighting, rather than batteries, a sawyer instead of a lifestraw, a better stove option, couple backpacker inflatable pillows, some sort of shelter option (I have a small 2 man tent which packs tiny in my 2 man bag - you could also do the Mylar “tent”), a small toilettry kit (2 toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, microfiber towel, baby wipes - for hygiene or bathroom).
@carlbernsen12905 жыл бұрын
Thanks for video. My thoughts: The included food gives 631 calories per person per day; not enough; sitting still you use 1000; walking, working hard you can use three times that. Most of the food needs dehydrating and heating which may not be easy or even possible in storm conditions. There’s no proper shelter. You’re dependent on finding some ready made. No insulating mats. A concrete floor is hard to sleep on and sucks heat away. The sleeping bags are for summer use. If upgraded to thicker bags they won’t fit in the pack. 6 litres of water for 3 days is enough for one person. Ok, solutions: A waterproof backpack (hands free carry is much more practical) of 40 litres for ONE person. Extra space for food, water, warmer sleeping bags, clothes, meds etc. Each person carries their own pack; if one is lost there is some ability to share food and gear. Children can have lighter packs as they need less food and water. A child’s pack can be attached to an adult pack if necessary. Supplied with a high quality, lightweight 2 season sleeping bag, warm mat and large bivvy bag (Blizzard would be my choice) which can be used with another 2 season bag for winter. Buyer can add their own tent. Food: at least 1,500 calories per day per adult, of ready to eat. Highest calorie content is fats and oils; eg pine nuts have 6000 cal per kg, so 1kg is enough. Boring, but you can add some dried fruit and oat bars. The radio would be better as a two-way, so you can call for help, with more battery life. Waterproof head torch, yes. Better to avoid the need for fire, it may not be possible or advisable to light one. And with the pack, and all essential tools, retaining cords that clip onto a belt or wrist, so you can’t lose them. If you fall in moving water and have to take off your pack, you want it attached to you.

I just watched a 1957 72hr food kit being opened for the first time. It was a large tin container rusted on the outside perfect on the inside. I was 7 years old then and remember some of the products Problem with building your own kit is it's very time consuming and if you only need a few nitrile gloves, for example, you have to buy a box of 100. Right there you just lost money. Same goes for the entire pack. Ordering or shopping piece by piece is hard. Every single person I know who has said they want to have a 72 hr bag also never has the time. As a result when SHTF one single ready to go bag is a whole lot better than a DIY kit that never got made. I built my own portable medical kit. Cost me over $100 for the pouch, bandages and things that I had to buy in quantities. That's half the price for what you pay for one person. Don't even ask me how much the rest of the kit cost cause once you get going......
@fathergoose47845 жыл бұрын
Definitely a good kit for those who don't want to bother with making their own; but the price point is going to prevent many from buying...just too salty. My personal opinion is the hydration section is lacking big time... I'm betting that water provided wouldn't last a day and 1 lifestraw is fine for areas where you'll be running into a water sources every couple miles; but I'd rather see something like a Sawyer filter and a large "dirty" water bladder for scoop and go (bladder makes more sense for the 2 collapsible drinking containers...). Love the higher quality bag...
@EverydayTacticalVids5 жыл бұрын
FatherGoose Agreed. Building your own is always the best system but as far as premade bags this one covers a lot of bases.
@keithsimpson24925 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on the adds and I'd add things like T.P. in the kit. It does have sanitary wipes, but there can't be many in that small pack and you need some to keep your hands clean when doing cooking or first aid chores. I'd add a couple of rolls of the camping T.P. I'd also add some coffee/tea/or fruit drink packets to flavor the water and add some electrolites to your body. A couple of cups for those drink additives would be a good idea as well. And a tarp to cover yourself with if forced to stay in the outdoors, along with more paracord to help rig it up properly. However it's a good place to start if your new to prepping and unsure how to go about it. But I wouldn't recommend their kit to a newbie, I'd steer them to building a kit for themselves for far less money.
@kevinsmith91425 жыл бұрын
Overall for a pre-made kit it's not bad. That said for $500 the knife needed to at least be a mora and the flashlights needed to be better quality.

good kit, kinda spendy, but it is potentially 3 days full survival basically ( 3 season), " I like the bag" water purification tabs would be helpfull, the dried food packs would be nice to come with heaters, I have to mention ease of use is right up there in the top grouping, I would have added in a hand crank flashlight, a rechargable LED headlamp, a few Bic lighters & candles, a strong ultralight waterproof tarp with 100 feet spool of 550 paracord, not just a sm. roll, I also would add real fuel for cooking not just pot warmers, or in it's place a (wood fuel) collapsable stove and a folding saw or sm. hatchet, and gel fire starter.

Move to Michigan. Most likely natural disaster? None. Worst-case natural disaster? A few days of power outage. Or a tornado hits 'ya, in which case spend the $500 on building relationships with your neighbors so that they can help out, or keep wild animals away from your corpse, whichever is more appropriate. Also, I have an RZ mask for work. If you're not happy with an N95 mask, then get a respirator. A 3M half-face respirator is cheaper and works way, way better. When the people at RZ said that they're not OSHA approved because they couldn't guarantee a good seal, that non-approval was for a good reason. Yes, it's a Hell of a lot better than nothing; however, if you are really concerned enough to buy a better mask, get a respirator. And that sums up the kit: Just do better on your own. If you're worried enough to buy a kit, then buy items commensurate with the stuff in this bag. Want a waterproof bag? Put a contractor or compactor bag inside a regular bag; that's what through-hikers do, and they hike thousands of miles a year, so you'll be good for 3 days. And what about the quality? Well, you get Duck Tape. Does that answer questions about quality? Because it should. Hell, I got a titanium ultralight stove that weighs a couple ounces for a pittance -- though the sterno is a good idea. For those guys who want to get this for your wife for when you're out of town, there are two things you need to understand: 1. If you wife is incapable of taking the _days worth of notice_ about an impending storm, loading the kids into the car with food, candles, and blankets, then she's incapable of using this kit. And 2. Stop being so sexist. 99.99% of survival gear is just Beanie Babies show-and-tell B.S. And I'm not knocking it, as long as we recognize it for what it is. But that is what it is. If you're really concerned, then spend a day off on Amazon finding stuff that will work for 3 days, because that's as long as it needs to work. My 2 cents.

Good vid! I always watch your videos and I love this one. But I don't love the kit. I was with you til the end when we get the 'big reveal' on price. Obviously a certain amount of cost came from having their logo put on stuff vs just filling a bag with stuff. But much of the stuff is very low end. The light is garbage (had one and it broke immediately). The FAK actually looks to be above average and the Backpacker's Panty entrees are excellent. But the Millenium bars just blocks of compressed sugar, sickeningly sweet and hard as a rock. The sleeping bags look pretty cheap but it's hard to tell from a video. At the price point it could have included much better 'tools'. That's the weak point. I suppose my biggest criticism is that for half the money you could get vastly better stuff, especially if it's for urban/bug-in-or-bug-out scenarios. No matter where you live you should have sleeping bags for every member of the family. Lifeboat water is okay but that's minimum survival rations for just a couple days. There's no cheating with water- it's heavy and bulky. "Solving" that by including about one day's worth is not the answer. You can get a case of bottled water for a few bucks or better still, fill some plastic containers. The Reliance 7 gallons are very durable, easily portable and cheap- a vastly better option. Freeze dried meals are great and easy to use but very expensive. A few for a 'bugout bag' might make sense but for home use just stock up on canned stuff that you'd normally eat. Stuff like retort pouches of tuna or chicken, canned soups/stews, etc. A prepared person should have a decent camp stove! If this was $200 it would almost make sense for the very lazy. I understand the need to bake some profit into the product or why sell it? But it seems like an overpriced, me-too product that's pretty underwhelming.

This video has motivated me to save 300 and mirror this well thought out kit using more premium products. Thanks for sharing!

It seems like a decent pre-made lit, but way too high on the price. I know it's not their full time job, but lowering the price by $200-300 would encourage more people to buy them.

price i a little steep, to me a more realistic price point is arround 300.00, the food is dehidrated and the kit does not have much water included to start with, i will like to something more in the pre cooked and ready to eat meals, were i can save the water for actual drinking, paracord was mentioned, 100 ft 7 dlls any day, life saver, cotton and petroleum jelly aith a fire starter kit is a must, matches only do so far, add a bic lighter, that is 1000 fires ready to go in less space, jus dont forget to put it into the water proof box with the flash lights and the knife, you mention moras 2 for 12 dlls on ebay, in stead of a single 3 dll blade, as you said better than nothing, i prefer the mora, it is good and cheap, also can hung it on my belt or back pack, and can add cord, duct tape, electrical tape ond ponchos, there is cheapones for 4 to 5 dlls, extremly usefull, hope this helps improve this kit some. great presentation...

The stuff is the wrong color. Black is harder to see. Orange is bad in the fall it matches the trees fall colors. Blue is a good color in the fall but it is the close to green. So look at two 72 hour kits one blue and one orange. Now I’m not walking about bug out bags or gear.

What you need to do is make a survival bag for idiots like me I don't know what I'm doing with that stuff and make it so user-friendly it's pathetic cuz I'm dyslexic

I think it would be a great starter kit but the price just way too much,
@thepiredugaming5 жыл бұрын
for that price I could buy two Seventy2 prep pack and i'll get better stuff
@JeanetteIsabelle5 жыл бұрын
I have researched both kits. I respectively disagree. The Seventy2, a one-person kit, is $350. If you buy two, that would be $700. The Storm Duo Pack is currently $450. The two kits are very similar, almost identical in certain categories. However, each kit has advantages that the other does not. The Storm Duo Pack has sleeping bags, an overall better first aid kit though it lacks splints, a better food option and includes water pouches. Except for the lack of a sleeping bag, the Seventy2 has more shelter items (tent, hat and hand warmers), a better water filter, more cordage and includes a folding shovel, sunscreen and splints. I would suggest getting both kits if it were not for the overlapping (radio, goggles, gloves, air filtration mask, glow sticks, hand sanitizer wipes, emergency blanket, flashlight, knife and multi-tool). However, you mentioned buying two of the Seventy2. Am I to assume you are a party of two? May I suggest getting one of each for a party of two, though at a price of $800 instead of $700? You will need an extra hat and those costs $20. For an extra $120 I believe you will have a much better system than buying two of the Seventy2.

@@JeanetteIsabelle HI, thanks for your reply... Today you have all the reason and I am gratefull that you made me know it. I do not have much money and so trying to get the best with my budget for most urban surival situations (I live in Mexico City and in plus work with reporters so It can get dangerous). So yeah maybe I'll start with a Seventy2 and when getting more money I'll allow me to buy this one! Thanks again !

18 hours without food is crazy. Go 48 hours without any food and you go insane. I speak from my own experience.
@amelyoussouf37263 жыл бұрын
Not at all actually. After a while ( 48 hours usually) your body just starts burning fat for energy, and it’s quite effective. Pretty recently I fasted for 7 days (no food at all) and I felt pretty great. 48 hours without food is nothing tbh. If you do very little physical activity and save your energy our bodies are equipped to last a couple months (assuming you are in good health, of a solid build, and of good muscle mass) before starving to death.
