It seems better to have gloves,and in many AED compartments they will have gloves available,but if there is not any gloves around you,you can still preform CPR and AED,but you first want to make sure and ask yourself,is there any substance on the patient that can potentially harm me,such as blood. Also,in many schools they have AED machines,though some might not have them,it depends,like in many other places.

It’s 30 compressions, then two breaths and repeat until they start breathing

The new protocol states that you check if the patient is breathing no need to check pulse.

LOL not true. It says you do it at the same time. But checking pulse is ALWAYS done. If a patient's not breathing but HAS a pulse YOU DO NOT START CPR, you perform ventilations every 5-6 seconds and re-check pulse every 2 minutes.
