The Erie and a lot of big railroads were 6 ft gauge that's why narrow gauge was 3 ft

Awesome layout and tips! I went down the research rabbit hole after seeing Bachman's on30 stuff. Some of the kit bashed stuff is incredible! I'm sticking with 3 rails for now but loved seeing their layout👍👍

As delightfully-whimsical and loving-made as this layout is, I have to say this is not "tinplate." The rails are not formed from tin-plated sheet steel, which is the tinplate enthusiast's agreed-upon definition of "tinplate". If you want to talk about 'true' On30 tinplate, I would refer you to the clockwork and battery-powered trains of Biller Bahn. German-made, and sold from the 40's to 70's, this brand of trains is really and truly unique. The track has wooden ties w/tinplate rails, and the majority of the rolling stock is formed of lithographed tinplate. Yes, it is of European origin, but - as with most 'tinplate' - it was designed and intended - for children and excellent 'play-value'. Nowadays, I 'suspect' that most of these trains are 'played with' by their delighted adult owners...as they should be!

The only usa 2 foot i know Of that would fit the ON30 category is the Frisco Silver Dollar Line FSDL in silver dollar city

Bachmanns on30 steam engines are some of there best engine with good detail run great and look good, I have two of them, on30 is great for villages and other layouts
