Hey Charles! I always liked harmonics, but I not really quite get how should I use them in my basslines. Can you make a video about how can we use them?

Then learn the full modes in each key. Then learn them spanning multiple octaves at once. Add some walking bass in your downtime. And you'll be a monster in no time. Thanks Charles!

Great approach Charles! Love the exercises. I’m predominantly fretless, but these are great intonation/technique challenges also with the theory. Definitely incorporating it into practice! 😎🎸🎶🙏🏼

If a bass is “tuned in fourths” why is one string lower a fifth
@lynnmatsui
@lynnmatsui 6 ай бұрын
They go up in fourths (E A D G) but the inverse of a fourth is a fifth so if you look at them from the high end each string goes down a fifth from the previous one.

Another greater tutorial, Charles. Much appreciated. I see you use a barre with your little finger to play both the 5th note and the octave when playing the triads on the major keys. I'm afraid my pinky is still too weak to cover the A and D strings simultaneously (no problems with the D and G strings, though), so is it alright to just use the ring finger (on the 5th note) and the little finger (on the octave) instead? PS: Have you a tip for strengthening the pinky?
@blakebass1
@blakebass1 5 ай бұрын
I have been a bass instructor for many years, and I stress the importance of pinky 'barring' to all of my students. There are some simple exercises that will help the pinky improve it's strength and ability to barre. Do whatever you can to train your fretting pinky to keep it's normal bend at the main knuckle, while encouraging it to bend /flex in the reverse direction at the smaller (first) knuckle. You can practice this on the tabletop by flattening your entire hand on the table, then raise your main knuckles while keeping the fingerprints flat on the table. This will demonstrate the 'main' knuckles being bent normally, while the smaller knuckles will be gently bent 'backwards'. You can do this same exercise by pressing both hands together, like 'praying hands'. Keep your fingerprints firmly pressed together while bending at the main knuckle. This will really demonstrate the 'backward' flex you're looking to develop in the pinky. Lastly, try experimenting with different angles and hand positioning in your fretting hand to facilitate this backward pinky flex. Relax, and find out how to best get your pinky to cooperate with this flex, and in no time you will improve at being able to barre across the 5th and the octave. Cheers!

Is triad the same as appregio?
@elliotglaser1718
@elliotglaser1718 6 ай бұрын
You can arpeggiate up a triad. Arpeggio just means to play the notes of a chord sequentially by themselves, not at the same time as a chord.

You forgot the absolute basics of music theory: when the teacher says to play the higher string, he means the string below. Seriously, avoid using words like higher and lower when you are talking about the fretboard.
