This song was written and recorded first by Dolly Parton not Whitney. Plus Putri butchered the whole song. Neither Dolly or Whitney would be proud. People need to stop trying compare two different artist in different environments. For me I like Dolly’s original version the best. Lucy has a big advantage over Putri because of accent and language barrier. Lucy has lived in Northern England her whole life. She speaks with a King English accent. So all of her words are very clear and concise. If you every here her speak. It would scare the hell out of you. You would say how does that speaking voice equate to that singing voice. I get that Putri singing and accent doesn’t bother people from her area of the world. But for the English speaking people it will always be just a little off.

“I will always love you” was written by Dolly Parton as a bittersweet love song, Dolly and Lucy Thomas sang it that way. Whitney and Putri sing it as a power ballad. Personally I prefer the song sung the way it was written therefore Lucy’s version is my preferred version a she sings with the technical excellence of Whitney and the appropriate emotional connection. For me both Whitney and Putri oversing what, as I said, was written as a bittersweet love song.

This is what I remember the reason Dolly Parton wrote the song. She worked for Porter Wagoner that had live performances at the Grand Ole Opera in Nashville TN. She promised Porter that she would she would work for him for a certain length of time. After a while Porter became Dolly’s mentor. When it came time for Dolly to leave and strike out on her own to make here own career. Dolly wrote the song as a retirement gift. That’s what i remember.
