I took apart many dirt bike engines and I've never had to read valve upside down not saying that it can't be done my first bike I ever pulled apart I was about 14 years old 86 YZ80 the bike sat in a friend of mine's garage next to my uncle where my uncle lived at the time over 25 years ago I think I paid $150 for the bike I was so happy when I got that bike running the internet was not big at that time they did have it but it was very uncommon so I waited for like a month or two months I think it was over a month or two to get it's called the stator when I put that stator on that thing ran like a champ the clutch was starting to go in it and then from there is history on the rest but I've never had all the bikes I've built never got one with a reed valve upside down or put one upside down myself but hey it happens
@clutchdropsnrodknock4545 Жыл бұрын
Well I did it myself. Not paying enough attention to the silhouette that the Reed valve made with the cylinder just focused on the arrow. And the bolt holes lined up lol. It was a duh moment for sure.

Sounds really good. I had an 84 rm 250 it was a pig to start ... parts are really hard to find and the last top end kit cost me 250 bucks ... sold it to a dude that collects vintage motocross

This thing was literally a 1 year bastard from kawasaki. Almost nothing is interchangeable lol.

I hope he's heard that idle down a little bit.It's idling off walehigh that or you've got an air leak. Turn the air mixture to the right that leans the bike out turn it to the lefy or ccw counter clockwise richens the bike up. If you think of it like this, you won't ever forget when you turn it to the right that shuts the fuel off going to it gives the bike less fuel when you turn it to the right, it shuts the fuel off when you turn it to the left, it gives it more fuel richens. It up..

Yeah, I have something nice to say. Sick bike. You're making good progress so far - keep at it! Couple bits of tuning advice. Check the boot for pinholes - those early years clean up into the early 90's were infamous for cracking. You can "fix" that problem by going to a Boyesen Rad Valve - which makes that piece aluminum and then uses a tiny rubber bit to mate it to the carb. From experience, there isn't a whole lot you can do to "bring the tank back" - but if you want to try, I've had really good success with orange GOJO on a buffing applicator. GO SLOW, and don't overheat the plastic or it will warp. The gas over the years causes them to discolor a little. Not much you can do. Follow with increasing grades of wetsand. The same thing can be done to the airbox with black shoe polish to make it look *BRAND NEW* if you're very careful. Oh, and check for the gasket between your headpipe near the stinger to your silencer, it's leaking just a tad!

Thank you! I appreciate the advice, ill check on that. I actually noticed the leak at the silencer editing the video🤣.

Have a 1987 kx 250 myself just restored what a pig to start would kick ot for ages before it would fire 15-20+kicks. (But if it tip the bike over to the right side for 8 or 10 seconds it will fire firs or second kick)

I always run a gasket between the top end and the reed cage on my 01 YZ250

Dude, get a shop manual. Worn crank seals, piston rings and gas, 2t mixture too oily ,bad plug. Bad ignition etc. These engines are simple to work on.
@clutchdropsnrodknock454511 ай бұрын
The only possible thing on your list is a too oily mixture. However it was mixed per the shop manual specification. The shop manual I had for it. 😂 everything else was new and I was just trying to get it to run long enough to tune the damn thing and break in the rings

@@clutchdropsnrodknock4545 I owned and raced the 88 kx125 and it had the kips valve setup. Easy as hell to work on, man it could fly high off of jumps.

If it's still won't start check your pilot jet.Usually that's the problem when it won't start.Is your pilot jet is clogged
@ThomasBrock742 ай бұрын
Dude, 4 terms is way too many.It should only be 1 or 1 and a 1/2.Turns out on the air mixture screw. Sounds like you have a severe air leak somewhere. I suggest doing a blow down test. You plug up all of the ports and pump air in there and find out where the leak is coming from.

My 94 kx250 acts the same. Carburetor issues. Gotta be. Idk

Do yourself a favor and get you a kid that allows you to check for air leaks?It will help you immensely
