2 stroke smoker, 1989 Yamaha TZR 250 2MA *REVIEW*

Following my recent ride footage, I decided to put a bit of context to it and share my thoughts on this gorgeous modern classic. Just, go easy, it’s my first go at this! Still got a lot to learn!

Hello there . I'm here in Germany, and I can fully support everything you said ! After I bought my RGV 250 back in 1991 I was hooked on 2-strokes. When I got the opportunity to buy a TZR I just had to do it. No regret....

I've got a 1989 Suzuki RGV 250 done up in the Kevin Schwantz Pepsi livery. I actually had the original version back in 1989. Sold it at some point and of course quickly regretted it. Now 34 years later and at the age of 70 I recently finished a restomod of a pretty good example RGV VJ21. I ride it regularly and it sits proudly as my clear favorite in my multi bike garage. It's now a "keeper". While I'm not as fast as I used to be the thrill and pure enjoyment of wringing out a 250 V-twin 2 stroke is the ultimate in sport bike riding. I'm still amazed at just how competent and fun the little RGV performs. A truly epic era of motorcycling and I'm honored to have resurrected and preserved this bike for me and whoever is the next caretaker. Anyone with the 250 race replicas of that era is a very lucky person.

i had a blue and yellow 2ma. loved it. engine seized at 100mph after rebuild done badly by yamaha dealer. still loved it. ❤

Yeah, the risk is real with a 2 stroke! I always have the clutch covered just in case 😂… mine should be blue / yellow but when I got it back it had been semi-restored in a mix of 2MA and 2XT red / white. Blue bodywork is hard to come by so i did it to the correct red/white for its year in the end. Unfortunately 17/18 year old me decided the blue / yellow was too old fashioned in 1995/1996 so I put black TZ fairings on it (hindsight is an amazing thing)

I own an 88 TZR2502MA in blue/yellow, and really should get it out of storage, and fix the fuel leak and ride it! I've been saying it for 2 years.

They’re great aren’t they? I would love to find my first road bike, an import TZR50 from Japan… I had it at 16 in ‘94 and it looked like an FZR400 that shrunk in the wash a bit… it was heavily de-restricted and flew (for a 50)… J483RHA (DVLA shows as not taxed or MOT’d since 1997, so if anyone has it rotting in their shed give me a shout!
