Thank you poster, never seen the whole match. Really compelling, despite the lack of rallies. I think Boll must have really fancied his chances after beating the World Champion. Then came Waldner with a plan.

Timo Boll - есть Timo Boll, но Werner Schlager из тех мастеров, которые даже в проигрыше внушают восхищение виртуозной техникой. Werner Schlager - виртуоз в tt. Для безупречных и стабильных побед, конечно же, одной техники недостаточно, нужны хитрости на подачах и в розыгрышах: уловки и обманки.

Kaum zu glauben, dass danach Boll auf dem Zenit seines Könnens gegen den fast 40-jährigen Waldner verloren hat. Zeigt natürlich auch, welche Klasse bereits diese alten Recken ab ca. Anfang der 1970er Jahre hatten ...

Waldner played internacional competitions in 80's.

Boll said of all serves, Waldner's was the _hardest_ for him to read. And his whole game was composed of the same elements that Boll's style was least equipped to address.

Waldner ist einfach nicht so ein selbstunsicheres Nervenbündel wie Boll. Und wahrscheinlich auch um einiges intelligenter.
