@@mac888spectral7First, they may have called them employees, but it's not at all a stretch to assume those "employees" were actually part of the stations ownership, or even paid (often handsomely) by said ownership to "firmly" handle vagrants, and this sort of treatment being doled out on train hoppers was relatively commonplace in the not too distant past. Train hopping could be very, _very_ risky business depending on the train cars and stations one might find themselves in or at. Second, they didn't walk away, they limped away. That's actually an important distinction, but you sort of made it out like they walked away unscathed, and that's far from the sentiment the actual events depicted in the story seemed to imply. Which brings me to the next point. During the events of this story, they were young men in their mid twenties, firmly in the prime of young adulthood, biologically speaking. Generally speaking, human beings are surprisingly resilient creatures throughout most of their years - even into old age - but the absolute zenith of physical prowess, access to internal energy stores, ability to sustain and fend off injury, and nearly limitless capacity for healing is found during the years about 18 to 35, give or take. And that's just accounting for base physiology. Factor in survival instinct and couple it with copious amounts of this neat little self-administering emergency drug called adrenaline and what it's capable of doing to the body and central nervous system, and you suddenly have the recipe for making possible of the impossible. So it's not so difficult to imagine them limping away from such a dire beating, Unfortunately, the harsh reality is that more often than not survival is only half the battle. Because when it comes to sustaining severe physical trauma, whether or not short-term survival translates into the privilege of living to see tomorrow is almost always a measure of expediency of adequate medical intervention. I suspect therein lies the truth of Chaz's fate. While the undeniable advantages of youth, human resilience, and adrenaline may afford one whatever is needed to survive such a violent onslaught and hobble away to safety, they simply cannot overcome the ravages of leaving critical conditions like concussive traumatic brain injury or internal bleeding untreated; indeed nothing could. Tragically, not only did Chaz not seek immediate emergency medical intervention, he also chose to do probably the worst thing he could have done for his depleted and likely critically wounded body - he used a substance which simultaneously masked the intensity of his pain (which may have otherwise alerted him to the actual severity and gravity of his bodies state) but which unquestionably and significantly depressed his central nervous system and cardiopulmonary functions. In my opinion, it's quite likely that - had Chaz sought out immediate medical intervention, he may have gone on to see another day. Unfortunately that's not what happened, and beyond that, it's also possible that the beating wasn't the deciding factor and that he simply danced too confidently with the devil one too many times, and his luck and number were up. Whatever the case, this story isn't nearly as farfetched as you've made it out to be. In fact, I personally feel that it reads as refreshingly genuine, in its dichotomous and contradictory suffusion of both despair and hope throughout, that bittersweet ambiguity which so ubiquitously characterizes the most moving stories of man and his humanity. 😂 Look at me, waxing poetic and all that in the KZbin comments! 😅

They start off flying to the moon only to end up fighting to keep from being dragged to hell. And that is multiple times a day, day-by-day, year-by-year. Either they decide to fight it and try to make the conscious effort to put it down. Or they succumb to it that last time while telling themselves that tomorrow is going to be different after this One. Last. Time... Thanks for your wonderful channel.
