I show how to use relatively cheap, budget equipment to effectively charge an AGM car battery and a liquid electrolyte.

Charging the Lead-Acid Battery with Liquid Electrolyte
1.One-stage charging - the most commonly used.
It consists in charging with a rectifier with a constant current value of 0.1C to obtain signs of full charge - if the density measured for 3 consecutive hours at 1-hour intervals does not increase and / or has reached 1.28 g / cm3. Batteries with no access to the electrolyte can be recognized as fully charged by three consecutive voltage measurements at one-hour intervals. When the voltage does not rise, the battery is full.
2. Two-stage charging - the most recommended due to the durability of the batteries.
It consists in charging the battery in the first phase with a constant current value of 0.1C until the electrolyte gassing occurs, and then, after a few hours' break (2nd stage), charging with a current of 0.05C, i.e. 5%, until the battery is fully charged or 1.28 g / cm3. As with single-stage charging, the diagnosis of full charge can be made by measuring the electrolyte density at intervals as well as the voltage at the terminals.
Brief rules for charging a battery with liquid electrolyte
I. PRE-CHARGE up to 15 V - currents 10 - 30% C
II. CHARGING DRAWING above 15 V - currents 2 - 5% C
The charging voltages adopted above are to be used ONLY and exclusively
FACILITATING THE REMEMBERING OF THE ABOVE VALUES.
If the density does not increase, stop charging.
In batteries where there is no access to the electrolyte:
- we use a voltmeter - a multimeter
If the voltage does not increase for the next 3 hours, we stop charging.
Charging AGM Battery
Important:
End of charge voltage 14.5V-14.9V, current to 0.3C (30% C)
1. Basic charging - after deep discharges.
• - Charging current up to 0.3C or 30% of capacity.
• - End of charging when it drops to about 1.5-2.5A depending on the battery capacity.
• A normal CHARGER IS SUITABLE for charging this type of battery only under supervision.
