My first Camino was the Camino Portugues from Baiona to Santiago at 65 years old! Now at 67 I’ll be returning for Camino #3, starting in Sarria!! I definitely have felt that Camino magic and understand your feelings when it’s hard to find the words to describe how this magic changes you. In watching your video I found myself saying “I’ve been there!” on numerous occasions! And just like Lisa, got goosebumps when I first saw the Cathedral, followed by a good ugly cry!! 😭 I can’t wait to do it all again. Thanks for taking me back to happy times. Buen Camino to you both, wherever you’re headed next. 💕

This is amazing and truly inspiring. As someone who works from home 80% of the time, it makes me want to explore places I've never seen before. What I love most about this video is how it emphasizes the importance of enjoying the journey, rather than just focusing on the end goal. I can’t wait to try this with my partner, maybe next year!

I havent done th Camino but as someone that hikes and bikes in the Canadian Rockies where I live I think any place you do an activity where you get to ponder your life and moment can be up lifting. My mother in law was 75 when she did the whole Camino Frances by herself . A devout catholic she loved it and will be doing another trip 7 days with her 4 kids . She will be 82 in January. Enjoyed your videos and fell into one yesterday about New Zeaand as my son left to do a working holiday last week and is enjoying Van life.

I’m working in US right now, but I hope soon you can try to visit my hometown Cebu, Philippines. Safe travels always 🫰🏼

I have to give you both credit. You know how to make a good video. You "show" and don't tell. So many of these videos are people talking in a room with the occasional clip outside. This was really enjoyable and I got somewhat of a sense of what the trip was like. Thank you.

Thank you Lisa and Josh for making this incredible video series on the Camino Portuguese. I'll be walking this September, starting in Porto. I'll be walking on my 67th birthday and hopefully with a friend, who is about to leave for Europe tomorrow... Anyway, I'm so excited to walk this Camino, and I'll be watching this entire series again. You both have inspired me so much and if I do go by myself, that's ok!! I'm confidante in my abilities to navigate and make this Camino my own. Thank you again, you two made me totally laugh at some points, and shed a tear at the end...God bless you both!! ♥

In 2022,at the age of 64, I decided I wanted to walk the Camino de Santiago. After getting a great ($) deal, flying in to Porto, I change my plans from Camino Frances to walking the Camino Portugues first. It is a great way to break in your body to the Camino routine. After 13 days and 270 km I was ready for the Camino Frances. Taking a series of buses and wasting 23 hours, I ended up in St Jean Pier de Port. The walk took me 32 days. 800 km was physically demanding but immensely satisfying. Completing the Frances, like you, was a sad, depressing moment that lead to me continuing to Finisterre. There is a custom among many pilgrims that you should burn an item of clothing at the end of your trek, bath in the ocean, watch the sun set then hike ( in the dark) to Muxia where you watch the sun rise. This symbolizes shedding your old life and welcoming the future and your new life. I decided to only participate in the last of that ritual. I sat on the hill side, overlooking Muxia and watched the sun rise. Maybe the tradition is full of crap but for me, I was able to walk away feeling renewed. My planned departure from Porto was still 20 days away so I set out to walk back instead of taking the easy way. Walking the wrong way on the Camino presents many new challenges. One that always makes me smile is that many of the local townsfolk try and turn you around so that you are “going the right way “. Elderly grandmothers leaning out second floor windows, yelling down to you the correct direction you should be walking. Shop keepers and cafe patrons jumping in front of you, attempting to help the lost pilgrim. My response was always to embrace their kindness, thank them and explain that Porto was my destination. One downside to walking against the flow is that you are on a singular journey that is not shared by fellow travelers. You may meet amazing people but they quickly move on, never to be seen again. In total I walked for 65 days, 1500 km or 900 miles. You would think I’d had enough but I return this year, at the age of 66, to walk the cities and countryside of Spain and Portugal. Returning to Porto, this time with my 37 year old daughter, I attempted to share the earlier experience. We took our time to shed the effects of jet lag and made our way to Ferrol. Our plan was to walk the Camino Ingles in a world wind five days. Though August isn’t my favorite time to be hiking, it was the only time I could drag Kori (my daughter) away from her other life. For five days, I walked, talked and laughed with her. Meeting fellow pilgrims, enjoying the wonderful folks and places gave Kori a snapshot of Camino life before she had to fly home. I, of course, was not done. A 350 km trek awaited my presences so I eagerly proceeded to the start of the Camino Primativo. Mistakenly, I thought the name came from the route word “primitive” but actually it stems from the word “Primary” as this was the first route to Santiago. Though, truth be known, this path was the most rural and unkept path of any I’ve 1:41:26 hiked. Fifteen days and a few accidents later I arrived in Santiago. From here I followed the path I’d taken just two years earlier: Santiago to Finisterre to Muxia to Santiago to Porto. I must be getting old but after 800 km or 500 miles, I was ready to go home

Ever since then ive actually come to enjoy flying Anyway your journey is inspiring! This is on my bucket list but not sure im fit enough for it!!
