It's better to measure their present heights and stem diameter, then after 3 months, remeasure again to know which species are the fastest to grow.

@@smartermindmatters That would be good and I'd like to get the heights now, but short of using triangulation or maybe using an app on a phone, measuring it accurately would be difficult for many of the trees and it would take a lot of time - maybe closer to the 5-year mark we'll go ahead and do a systematic measuring since the growth is fairly varied at this stage even within each species. For right now, hopefully the videos can give an idea of how quickly they are growing :) Thank you for watching and commenting on our videos!

Maybe you can put masking tape or anything as a mark at 1 meter height from the existing ground surface. Measure also the stem diameter at this point, then after 3 mos, 6 mos or 1 year, remeasure the size and height to know the growth development.

@smartermindmatters thank you! I think I understand what you mean and I looked into this a little more - it looks like trees grow vertically from the ends of their stems and then that part if the tree stays in place and grows out horizontally. That's how people can use them as living fence posts without the wires raising off of the ground. (I'm not the biggest fan of that practice since it means the wires and nails get incorporated into the tree, but it's an example). Thanks again for watching our videos and commenting!

What is the planting distance?
@outofdangerproject
@outofdangerproject 7 ай бұрын
Hello! We planted them 3 to 4 meters apart. I've heard recommendations as far apart as 5x5, or as close as 2x2 if they are going to be thinned after a couple of years. Thank you for watching our videos!
