We have owned 2 Proust including a built to our specs Quasar. You are going to love sailing this boat. We made 6 Atlantic crossings, raised 2 children and called the boat home for almost 20 years. If I were a year under 75 and my wife was still aging, we would still be at sea on a Prout built boat. This lady will still be crossing oceans after every modern charter catamaran has been sent to the land fill.

WOW, great job. Just as an aside, my father and mother used to build catamarans on commission. Their retirement plan was to sail the world in one they built for themselves, unfortunately that didn’t happen. Love your videos. Just getting around to watching this one. Cool that your mom and dad built boats, sorry they didn't get to live there dream. We have heard some other stories like that and that's why we just left before the boat was done, we didn't want to get stuck on the dock. the videos that you may be watching next are some of our favorites, Alaska was just amazing! We dream of buying our own boat and sail up the coast, to Svalbard, to Iceland, to Greenland, then heading back stopping Ireland/Scotland and the Faroe Islands to begin with :)

You are definitely right to go for the larger table, you could always slice it in half and hinge it for when you need the extra space to move around the cabin..

Depending on the inside width, centre the bed on the port or starbord side. Hopefully there will be enough room at the footing of the bed and your cupboards to get through. Makes it easier to make the bed and when you clean up. Your shelf you fitted leans to the front. Good luck. Fone to many yachts in my time..

Thanks for the advice, there is enough room to get through. We still have to make the bench for the other side and when the table drops down there should still be enough room even with the bench there. You have a very keen eye :)

Diesel heaters are fantastic . They do make a huge amount of heat near the blower but they use so little fuel. As long as you consider the heat right near the diesel heater the things work great. Had one in my big rig and it was fantastic

Thanks for the tips, we thought about permanently removing it, but we are probably just going to install it in a different location. It's great to have a trucker along for the adventure, I'm sure you have some crazy stories from the road! :)

Fantastic and well done. Cat of this era were built like two mono's strong but heavy. I met a Quasar owner who stripped a lot of weight out of his and improved the performance. He told me he removed nearly half a ton of unnecessary wire alone but at your age there's no hurry!

We are looking for ways we can save weight because we have added some weight (such as hard top and dinghy davits). We definitely have some old wiring to strip out and we had not put it on the to do list yet so thanks for reminding us. :)

Nice job, we have 1987 40’ Hitchhiker Catamaran, still chipping away, we have cruised the QLD coast/ Barrier Reef for two seasons so far. My mate and 88 year old mentor advised to use her as much as possible before doing too much. Great advise, good luck with it all, it is worth it🙏

The furling mainsail is pretty rare especially on a 1986 cat. It's already saved our bacon once so we are happy to have it :) Still lots of work to go so thanks for the encouragement :)
