My review on the GT Pro Leg Pads Weight: The pads are so light they flew out of the bed of my truck on the way to the rink. Durability: Based on the tire marks they got ran over twice before making it off the road. Only minor cuts and scrapes on the leather and a broken plastic buckle, but all the padding was intact and remained firm! 10/10. And the pads ride in the cab with me from now on 😁

Pete Smith has made all of my pads in the past, and made my first pair of custom Warriors when he transitioned to them. This year, I went with an off-the-rack set of Warrior GT2s, which are even more advanced and better than my custom ones from 2014...of course. But at 56, I don't exactly NEED the latest and greatest, so these fit the bill nicely. I switch out my pants, chest and arm protector about every 4 years of beer league play, or whenever a great deal shows up online. Skates are next on my list.

I've literally just completed my GT2 SR set and can say that it's the most modern and lightest and advanced gear I've used so far over the years. The pads needed a little getting used to, very lively rebounds but it's a work in progress. I was putting the knee strap to the calf as you're doing Maria but just recently placed it across behind the knee as in traditional use and I feel it gives me better control in my skating. I had to get the GT2 glove since it's a traditional sewn in palm which is what i'm used to and prefer. The blocker is extra beefy, more than I care for but I doubt I'll EVER get a stinger. Overall great set, good choice for ageing goalies who are slowing down lollll! My only real complaint is that I never received a pad carry strap like you showed towards the end. Would be VERY useful instead of carrying them by my Pro Laces.
@goalietraining2 жыл бұрын
bummer - - I'm sorry you didn't get the carrying strap. At first I didn't know what it was for, I was trying to think of how to attach it to my pads - - but then I figured it out. I started out with the strap behind my knee, but moved it to the calf because I don't really like the feel of something behind my knee. It's been a long time since I tried it, maybe I should try it again. Glad you are liking your gear.

I've had the warrior G2, G3 and G4 My son has the G5. I had the same issue with the glove in my G4. My son has 31+1 G5s and he loves them. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the glove. My hand just didn't work. I'm more of a 590 or bauer vapor glove guy. I've recently tried the hyperlite and had the same issues as you did with a 3x but it came with all the straps. I found a great review and used the straping I found on it. So far one of my favorite pads is from JRZ. The fusion is great. I've had there Prime (reactor 9000) . The 1st gen Fusion, and soon will have the 2nd generation. My wife hates that I try new gear all the time. But thankfully I have great people in the industry who help me out.

I have a very similar set up....intermediate R/GT pads classic style with G4 gloves. Been using these a few years now. I really like the features of the pads even though they are not the latest and greatest. I like the different strapping with clips around the boot, although I too prefer the ProLaces. The velcro straps that all the pads have now are great for easy on and off. The leather straps of the old days made it a time consuming task. I do prefer the strap behind the knee as I guess the old way still sits with me a bit and found the calf strapping felt too loose. What sold me on the G4 gloves over the GT's was the removable palm. I like how it is easy to customize it in place and remove it for the occasional wash. Being in early 50's I don't need the latest and greatest....BUT....it is nice to be fairly up to date as the benefits of lighter gear becomes more important the later years. I usually buy new but pick up old stock on clearance. I just sold some of my old gear online....maybe time for some new old stock LOL.

Hi, Maria, great video as always. My Warrior story is NOT a happy one, although perhaps there can be a happy conclusion for a fellow subscriber. As a 50 year old, life-time hybrid goalie who had always worn Vaughn Velocity (soft, Hybrid) pads, I was "seduced" by the notion of the Warrior RGP 5's super lite, super rebound, flat hard pads. After custom designing and waiting six months (!) to receive them, the experience was disastrous! While the customizable strapping etc. is a plus for some, they only left me confused as to which variation to try. The pads themselves had absolutely no "give", and no room for user error, with the thigh rises always crossing and jutting into my pants or chest protector. I'm 5'7 so had ordered the shortest Senior pair (32" + 1.5"). I skate 2-3 times a week (relatively) competitively, and did not want to get an Intermediate pad. The bottom line is the pads destroyed my game, and my confidence: over rotation, under rotation, and pure exhaustion in my glutes and hips, from trying to play a hybrid style in flat, inflexible pads. After three sessions including two disastrous league games, and many on-line chats to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong, I gave up, benching myself for the next two games and returning to the Vaughn family, custom ordering a pair of Velocity V9 Pro's (not Carbons), with a custom DOUBLE-BREAK. The retailer from whom i ordered them here in the States could not have been NICER: he spent over three hours with me in-store, showing me different pads, etc., and even giving me a loaner pair of older Vaughn SLR 2's while my custom Vaughns are being worked on. The bottom line is that the Warrior pads themselves are spectacular, but just wrong for a fellow who has been a hybrid goalie for way too long. Sadly, I need to sell these custom beauties (and they are beautiful), so if anyone on this thread is interested in chatting about them, please feel free to contact me! Incidentally, the moment I wore the vaughn hybrid's, my game returned: my skating, sliding, VH, Reverse VH-1, all immediately came back, and most importantly, the equipment functioned as it is supposed to: protective, but completely unobtrusive. I always say, your equipment should feel so comfortable after the shortest of break-in skates, that you could sleep in it! As for me, I guess this dog was too old for a new trick, but that's ok! As some great philosopher once said, in life and in hockey, be true to thineself!

That's such a bummer when you invest in something that you think is going to work for you and it doesn't; not to mention it is so exciting to get a new custom set... and then it does not suit your game at all. On the plus side, now you know, it's Vaughn or BUST for you :) Hope someone can snap those Warriors up from you!

Oh - - I didn't realize it was tougher to add prolaces to the G5s - good to know. For the knee shims, I literally just went into our local hockey shop (Pete's Sports in London) and told the guy I was looking for an extra little pad to slide into my knee stack... he went into the back and came out with something that wasn't specifically made for the pads, but they worked.

I love my Warrior GT-2 Senior set pads and gloves, now in my third season, 3-4 games per week. The gear is still near perfect. The strapping is awesome, quite a change from my old Brians with what seemed like a dozen leather straps on each pad. I would be interested to try the G5's as the 90 degree boot (a feature of hybrid pads) can throw some uncontrolled rebounds. I had tried the earlier G series pads (G2?), but the bulky outer calf protector was a no-go, so I waited and bought the GT2's. I would also be interested in the G5 catcher as I have a tendency to bounce pucks off by GT-2. Overall, I would say Warrior's goalie gear is excellent in design and durability. It would be great to see Warrior goalie gear in the NHL, but for now, it's our little secret ;)

I have CCM EFlex 4 Pro pads, been playing on them for 6 months. I'm still using your butterfly training program for a few weeks, but I'm starting to question them since I really can't glove my 5 hole with these pads. 33+1 size, very narrow flare. I'm questioning if they are even the right 'fit' and I should switch. My CCMs land flat on the face too sometimes.
@goalietraining2 жыл бұрын
If they land flat on the face - try loosening up the toe tie if you can. Maybe the calf wrap too. For the 5-hole issue - go out on the ice and just go into your butterfly - can you close the 5-hole when you are in a kneeling position on the ice - if you cannot, then I would say the fit isn't right. I suspect you will be able to though, in which case it is a technique issue and you just have to practice getting into that position. I hope that helps.

Such a fan of my G5pro's! Loved them so much I had to get me a second set before they got rid of the G5 graphic. Started into their equipment with the pants, then the chesty, and when I started looking to replace my pads I looked at my gear and realized it was almost all Warrior (and I am VERY picky for each piece). So figured they should at least be on the list to try on. Once my research was done and went in the store and on my legs they went from the long shot to to the "please don't prove me wrong" choice. And they have lived up to my research! I play a lot (3 league games a week and up to 4x practice/pick-ups a week). And after almost 1-1/2yrs of a lot of rubber, the ONLY wear has been on a Warrior label that is painted on the outer roll. *They have softened slightly from thr X-stiff custom order. But when I put the old pair up to the new pair to compare it wasn't near as much as I thought. The new pair will be a game set only (*just like the 1st pair was supposed to be - but liked them too much to swap between them and my SLR Pro Carbon's). Only issues I have is with the blocker. *Face is too flat for my liking *Finger protection (while extremely good) is too bulky for getting the paddle to seal on ice when blocking - cannot trust it. Too many pucks get under the stick. I've had 2 EASY shots go under at the hand at a basic cover-up... should NEVER happen!
