Hi, thank you for your feedback. Actually, I didn't think I can finish this 2 years money saving challenge at the first place since in Canada most people use cards to pay bills. I just slowly collected money from selling stuff on kijiji, lottery ticket money, my weekly pocket money left over.... it was a great challenge. Glad you like my video. Cheers.

Totally understand your feeling. I waited 2 years to open my piggy bank, didn't participate to open after 2 years, but my piggy bank was full and cant put any cash inside anymore. After the pandemic, I think i will redo my money saving challenge for 3 years. Maybe next money saving challenge can contribute a little bit to our house downpayment in the future.

Sorry for asking, but why didn't you save this money on a savings account?
@roxyhuang46234 жыл бұрын
Hi, this is a very good question. In Canada, most ppl have TFSA ( Tax free saving account ) , RRSP ( Registered Retirement Savings Plan). My bank withdraws some money into my TFSA monthly and I authorized them to invest for me. RRSP, I normally buy once a year before tax month and I also authorized my bank to invest for me. This Piggy bank's money is the " physical" money I saved for 2 years. My original purpose was for fun, then after few months, I started to take it serious and made a chart to track my process. I was thinking to use this money to pay for renovation or lawyer fee for my house if i do buy one. Unfortunately, I didn't buy a house in 2019 and my piggy bank was too full to put more money inside, that is why I decided to break it. I don't know how high the saving interest rate in your country, in Canada, the interest rate is very very very low, so no point for me to put money into saving accounts monthly. I rather to control my own spending daily and put the money I saved into the piggy bank. If you are curious, how I used the piggy bank money after breaking it, lol, I bought some stocks and so far they are doing well. I don't make a lot of money but I spend money wisely and I cook my own food a lot instead of eating out daily. Thank you for the comment, hope you have a good one.

After 2 years of saving and all it was is $8000 what do you do for a living??
@roxyhuang46234 жыл бұрын
Hi, living in #Toronto #Canada is not cheap at all. 8000 is the " physical" money we saved in 2 years. Most Canadians pay bills by debit or credit if you are aware. We are talking about 8000 Canadian dollars not 8000 Japanese Yen. Besides, the points are not how much money we saved, it is to spend money wisely and also not to buy things impulsively.

The idea is to spend less money when we go out, the money we saved, goes into the money bank. Besides, we sell stuff we don't use but stay at home, so we sell it on kijiji. Instead of spend those money, I put it into our money bank. Thanks for your comment.

Honestly.. I miss the point in these video of hanging onto money for years. or possibly decades at a time only to break out the money and show it off.. Here is a better idea.. open CDs and have the quarterly interest payments going directly to savings..I myself am working (15 missing steps) on a 60 step CD ladder.. FYI... CDs... depending on the length can earn from 4-30 times more than what typical savings will.. and if you hunt some institutions will let you open a CD for as little as $100.. You are committing to keeping the money in a jar for many months right??? Why not a bank ACTUALLY earning something???
