I went to another city with a friend for winter break. That city happens to be a college town, and during our visit, it was shut down and switched to online classes. The day after my friend gets an email that her university shut down, and then I get an email from mine. It was crazy, it was like everything was disappearing slowly.

Would it be possible to track the total number of cases by percentage of state population? I live in NM where our total population is only 2.1M by contrast to AZ where Maricopa County alone has 4.6M and the state is 7.2M. Tracking by percentages shows a different story. Here's my breakdown with AZ, CA, TX, and WY for comparison: NM: 337k cases ÷ 2.1M pop. = 16% AZ: 1.33M cases ÷ 7.2M pop. = 18% CA: 5.21M cases ÷ 39.37M pop. = 13% TX: 4.42M cases ÷ 29.2M pop. = 15% WY: 114k cases ÷ 590k pop. = 19% Surprise! NM is better than AZ and WY, but _worse_ than TX and CA. That's one to three _more_ cases of Covid per 100 people in NM than in either TX or CA. And, WY is _worse than all of them._ Let that sink in.

It’s sad to see how badly the US has botched the pandemic. We’re over 50 million cases and 800,000 deaths. Though we aren’t near the top per capita, the statistics there are still pretty bad. The majority of those deaths are from the elderly or people with pre existing health conditions. The death rate of a young healthy person is 0.002% which means only 1291 people who are young and healthy have died of COVID in the USA. Still a big number but lots of media and governments overreact to this thing. Omicron’s death rate is a lot lower than the original strain yet governments are taking it more seriously and imposing restrictions because of it. By the time the first omicron death was reported, most first world countries shut off travel from most of Africa.

50 million cases in a country with 330 million people in it? That's just a bit short of 1/6 of the entire nation! Worse, 825k deaths are akin to the whole state of North Dakota vanished. @@prestonlee9965 Yes, technically because it is endemic. But we are in the vaccine era of the pandemic now which means we should be okay. Although the danger is not everyone on earth is vaccinated, so new variants will form and could be more deadly. We dodged a bullet with Omicron. (So far) Yes we are experiencing a tidal wave of cases globally but Omicron is slightly less deadly and it has occurred in the vaccine era. Unfortunately hospitals will still fill up due to the sheer number of cases.

Where I Iive, the Netherlands have an even higher relative number of people who had or have corona. However the number of people who died of it is much lower compared to the USA. I dont think deaths in USA are caused by refusal to vaccinate because the vast majority are vaccinated. I think its likely due to poor management of retirement homes and bad health/obesity. My mom (a nurse) worked at the very hospital where the first COVID death in the United States happened, and it happened on her shift. We’re going to look back on this and see how stupid doing the “protocols” actually are. It’s a lot different living in a state where your house is a football field away from each other than you living in the same building as 100s of people.

I never had COVID and I never had the jab praise the Lord for my safety. I was in the face of coworkers without masks who ended up going home sick the same day and testing positive. But that was a weird time and feeling for me, not necessarily good or bad

Didn’t take more than 16 months for it to kill more than the number we lost in Vietnam over an 8-year period. And by the end of the second year the virus had killed more than 14 times that amount.

Let’s hope we never go through something like this again. I had company and good times in 2020, but after almost 4 years, I still remember how depressing it was not being able to do anything without being afraid of getting the virus and end up dying. That didn’t stop me from having fun in my own way though.

I'm not trying to start an argument, but I would just like to point the fact that the states who did not enforce vaccines or quartile are the ones who had the least cases. In TX, CAL, and new York's defense though, they had a lot of people.

Yup. And of course, the people that did die from COVID had "underlying conditions," like bullet-in-brain disease. These numbers were severely exaggerated.

If one head the time and money to do the research they'd find what we already know. That most of the reporting on covid deaths where inflated by call all deaths whether a motorcycle accident or stage four cancer as covid deaths if the person happen to have it. But my heart goes out to all those who where actually taken by this sickness.

Also how accurate are these results if they counted dying with covid as a covid death at the start of the pandemic. Remember in the first couple months if you died from an auto accident or a heart attack but where positive for covid they would count it as a covid death so the hospitals would get more funding. Not only that but the pcr tests had like a 40% of giving you a false positive. These numbers have a lot of problems tbh.
