There are thieves all over the world. 3 years ago, during covid, I had my first child at 36. Never imagined having children but I did and the money had saved went for a new vehicle to get me and my family around. Long story short I was making payments and on the last payment the car and seller was nowhere to be found. To make matters worse, it was told to me that it's a civil case and anyone who's ever sued before knows your basically s.o.o.l. If people are willing to steal from those with newborns, they'll steal from anyone.

Sad to hear this. When I first moved to Florida I took a job transfer to Kissimmee in the late 90's. Greg White (the gentleman who was robbed) had a little brick and mortar store in the downtown area and that was my LCS back in the day. Bought all of my early Dark Horse Star Wars comics from his shop off the rack monthly. Hope justice is served. Remember thieves karma is a bitch.

Different vendors have different set ups. My guess is his thought was if it was closer to the ground, he could keep better tabs on it and snatch it quickly, but that wasn't the case. The biggest issue was that this guy grabbed it and ran. Who knows, it could have also been a set up. Distraction theif is pretty common when you think about it.

If the theft was opportunistic, the thief might try to sell the comic and with so many dealers alerted he may well be caught; if it was stolen to order or for himself then it's much less likely to turn up in the near future. Absolutely beautiful EC comics, the covers look like the books were released just yesterday.

In the early 90’s, I helped out at a comic store. One night someone broke in. Smashed in the back door. Took several Golden Age books. One was Action Comics #23 - which I think was the 1st Lex Luthor. It wasn’t mint, but still. The biggie was Detective Comics #75 - which was MINT. Back then, there were many more comic stores than now. So the owner got on the phone to every store within a reasonable distance and had them keep an eye out for the stolen books. I really don’t remember if the ‘Tec 75 was ever recovered. I seem to recall that it was rescued, and the owner put it in a safety deposit box.

I'm starting to wonder if this was a crime of opportunity or is somebody actually traveling around doing this because someone hit a booth at NYCC last year for a couple of big books as well. In fact, a friend of mine had his personal copy of Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 (that was signed by John Romita Sr., John Romita Jr. and Virginia Romita) stolen as well. I hope pray that they get all of their books back.

That is heartbreaking! Especially since he'd bought the book for $15k so recently. I'm shocked that he had it sitting so close to the floor and not near the top of his display, but it's not like it's his fault. Heritage does a regular podcast now and since he bought the book from them (and many other books over the years) they might be willing to make an announcement about it on the podcast. The comic has such obvious sun damage that it can definitely be identified at a glance.
