Justin since seeing the upper half internally I would pull the engine and hot tank it to clean it from debris and re ring the pistons and install new rod and crank bearings along with new cam bearings, check your oil pump and pick up tube. Install crane push rods, a roller camshaft and lifters, Harland Sharp aluminum roller rocker arms, MSD billet distributor. Use quality parts as that blower is not easy on internal parts. Also, I’m curious as to which pistons the previous owner put on that engine. Hopefully they are at the right compression ratio and they are a quality forged person and hopefully you have good valves in those cylinder heads. Don’t forget to replace that cam lock. I know it sounds like a lot of money but it’s money well spent just so you don’t detonate that motor. Good luck on your project and once again, quality parts is the only way to go when running a blower engine.

My new cam was the same way only one lobe was gone the oil pan was full of metal residue so I disassembled the whole engine cleaning up real good and put it back together same rings and bearings just a little extra work. The bad cam lasted only in there about 50 miles everything else was fresh. Flush out inside the push rods, clean oil pump out spray entire block inside and out with Gunk. Rinse it out with a water hose 2x blow dry with compressed air.Do the same with crank pasages.pistons and rods & bearings too spick&span then reassemble entire engine and have a piece of mind. Make sure to check all bearing for wear. And install ring gaps staggered from one another @10:00 and 2:00 to keep it from burning oil

Love the channel Justin. But I have to question with all the wear on the lifters and cam lobes, where did all the debris go? You're almost 50% torn down, it would behoove you not to yank the block and check and redo the lower end, particularly since the cam bearing appear to be worn. Hate to see you invest a lot of $$$ and determine later there are issues in the lower end or there was sloppy workmanship lower down. . Best of luck on the project.

If the bottom end was assembled with the same level of quality components as the top end, I wouldn't be afraid to just swap out the cam and lifters and have a nice running driver.(use plenty of cam lube & follow break in proceedure) Roller cams can handle higher lift but can get very expensive. The distributor is a problem because access is so limited. The Lambo doors are a bit dated but it's really a great looking car 👍

I wouldn't assume anything about that engine now. You're still not even inside the block and all those issues are a bad sign. If you haven't run a compression test you're still in the dark about the rings, valves, guides and head gaskets. Besides determining if the motor is any good or not, I recommend a roller lifter cam rather than another flat tappet one.

You have cam and lifter cast iron debris throughout the engine. The fine ground up cast iron gets sucked up into the oil pump which basically ruins it, then to the filter, probably clogs the filter enough to open the by pass in the filter and or the filter adaptor if it is the stock one, and on into the oil system throughout . You will never get it cleaned out without complete disassembly and cleaning. Don't try to run it as is. Just a matter of time before it fails.

hey since you got the coolant drained this would be a perfect time to do a "super flush" to the cooling system. I do it in all the used cars I buy and usually flush it with the Prestone "flush+cleaner" too. it will clean any bloom, rust, or any dirty stuff in there extra good. who knows when the last time the coolant got changed. Backflush the heater core too. edit: I should clarify use DISTILLED WATER ONLY. its only $1/gal so its not too bad if you run several cycles of water you only need like 8/gal water total

Looks to as the owner before you either use crappy break in oil or non at all. I seen you mentioned that you are just going to piece it together. I wouldn’t being a blower engine. Tear it all the way down and check crank and rod bearings. Have the block flush of all that metal. You will just be right back in that engine real soon if not.

That distributer does not look good at all. I thought the blower was not heavy (Wrong) it was Nathan helped me carry it to where Jesse wanted it. He had to hold stuff up so we could move it. He's going to be removing the blower and dual carbs and put the manifold that he had on it many years ago and the carbs back in. It will sound louder than before without the blower which u can only hear it whine l. He's thinking about getting it done next week when it's cooler. Plus we can put the hood on. And leave it outside if it's raining. From the top of the air filter to the hood it's like half a inch of space. Nana was like hell yeah cause she misses the roar of the engine instead of the sound of the blower. It's always good to have good neighbors that helps you out. A church member that has helped me out with errands and she was really needing new tires but low income (Social Security) she couldn't so Jesse got tires and matching rims and hand Cash and Austin put the new tires with the matching rims on her car. She came in for a oil change. She was like banging on the office door of my office and Jesse's and Jackie's. She was like wait a minute I just came in for a oil change. Jesse said u helped us out and never take anything in return and he goes your welcome. Oh he has Nathan (oldest son) install new brakes and rotors. She brought cookies for him. Nathan was like no no Mr's Robinson u don't owe me no $$$ she was like u want my famous oatmeal raisin cookies and he goes yes please. I was like oh hell yeah thank you. Lucky we had a gallon of chocolate milk in the fridge in the break room. Grandma made banana bread and Jesse was like oh hell yeah. She made 4 breadpans of it.

I texted Jesse asked him where he wants to meet for lunch. And he was like not hungry still stuffed from breakfast. The waffles are like a standard plate size. The dreaded China Wall as we in the business say. Whoever was in that engine last shouldn't have been. I hate the fact that I was right about the previous owner Once you get it all back together hopefully it's good for a while.

Hate to say it but you got taken, and if I remember when you bought this you said the motor cost $27,000.00 and now you are tearing it down have to agree with a lot of others who commented you better pull the whole engine and do it right now instead of just doing a bandaid repair job that will cost you more later
