An easier solution for the "Closing compositions" chapter - if you right-click the hamburger options icon on the right side of the timeline name, you can select "Close Other Panels in Group" which will leave only that composition open

The goat noise also happens if your render fails, the first time that sound went off I almost jumped out of my chair. Great video btw!

So that goat noise is After effect's error noise. You can get it to play by asking it to do something that it basically can't. I discovered this when I was running a bunch of renders overnight and AE hit an error - while hooked up to a huge sub and speakers that I had forgotten to turn off. It woke me up and scared the living sh!t out of me all in one LOUD goat bleat.

Amazing tips!! An easier option to open and edit a layer in Illustrator would be to right click on it within the timeline, select "Open" and then "Edit Original"

Cool tips all around! I recently discovered that you can right click on a comp tab in the timeline and there's options to close all other timelines or tabs there. Also, you when you select a layer in your composition and want to replace with something else in your project you don't have to ALT+DRAG precisely on that layer. As long as you have selected the layer you want to replace you can simply alt+drag in your comp or timeline and after effects will replace it.

If you dont know where is your .aep file from a project, you can import the exported file to a new project, then press control+e with the file selected.The command is called edit original and it opens the .aep that the video was made of.This could be a lifesaver if you are working with a lot of people sharing files and projects or if you need to work on a really old project.

i knew all except 3 which i may've forgotten becuz of less use. - Open All Properties, i just use Ctril + F and find it. - Fix banding, i dont use that much, maybe gaussian blur will do the trick. - New comp from footage, i just drag to the comp icon.

EXACTLY the same here! 😁hahah.

I've been in AE more and more recently but realistically for me, I don' think I knew a single one. I make a lot of simple mograph and need to replace a logo or other elements and use the alt drag the new element, but now that I know about the new method that'll be a game changer. I'd like to also experiment with the 'keep it procedural' especially on selecting colors over layers (if possible). Keeping everyone's fill or stroke the same with one click would be a super help.
@motionbyscott8 ай бұрын
Great to hear! In relation to your fill colours, you could link with effects, a colour control expression or essential graphics - which is something I could definitely do a video on!

Goat sound is probably a sound of error. For example you hear a certain sound effect in windows if there is a error

These were great, but an easier solution for #14 is to select the layer and hit Ctrl+E (for Edit). It automatically opens it in the corresponding app.

Thank you for these! I know/use some of them, but a few were new to me! Re: basic math in variable properties: - You can actually make Ae do more math if you feel like doing less. As an example, if I'm making something that needs to be 1/16th taller than my 1080p comp, I can enter '1080 + (1080 / 16)' and it'll do that. - If you're going to write an expression that uses math based on another property, rather than dividing I recommend multiplying by a decimal. That way, if the referenced property ever goes to 0, you don't break your expression. As an example, if you want a layer to rotate 1/2 as much as its parent, use 'thisLayer.parent.transform.rotation * 0.5;' so that if the reference layer isn't rotated, it sets the value to 0, rather than disabling the expression :)
