The Muffin Man. I don't know how it came to be here as I inherited the original negative it's one of a set of street vendor photos that I've always understood were taken by my grandfather. I have only released one print, as a gift to a friend, in the forty years they have been in my possession.

it's become a common tradition and practice in the last few years for people to hold an ice cream cone up in front of the tower and take a photo with the Eiffel in the back ground..There is an ice cream store right next to the tower..Some people think the cone resembles the tower and thousands of tourists do it every year.The photo of the old man with the cone in the 1950's is trying to convey that the man was years before his time ( a pioneer) doing this tradition..possibly i'll wager the first person to be taken with a picture of a cone in his hand..Decades before it became popular.

I have copies of all of Phil Heaton's pictures through a friend of a friend of the wife of a work colleague. Mostly just holiday snaps, dead trees in the mist and pictures of roadkill. I can fax them to you if you like. There are about 4000 if memory serves. Should only take about six hours.

Hm. The "Children Washing A Meerkat" is a fake (manipulated) picture. It's not South Africa (rather a nursery in Bristol) and there is no meerkat in the original photo but a crying little girl.

Salinger was dating Una and going to marry her when he was sent off to WWII, he was humiilated when he discovered he had been dumped for Chaplin only after photos like this were published in newspapers worldwide. Salinger went on to write the draft to Catcher in the Rye throughout his war service (all the way from Normandy to Berlin), suffering PTSD and eventually becoming a recluse.
