20 Canva Teaching and Learning Nuggets

I traveled to the ISTE conference in Philadelphia on a quest to learn more about what Canva can do for teachers and students. I saw lots of examples of students using Canva's visual suite to demonstrate and share their learning. I also discovered lots of nice nuggets. Let's dip into them!
1. You can have up to 50 simultaneous collaborators working within a Canva design.
2. Whiteboard are great for collaboration. Click a collaborator's avatar to follow a user.
3. Whiteboards are infinitely expandable. That makes them great for sorting activities where items can be dragged into a chart.
4. It's easy to copy and paste other Canva designs and web links onto a whiteboard. Some teachers have students use a whiteboard as a portfolio for a unit or for the school year. It can expand to fit everything.
5. When someone adds a sticky note to a whiteboard and they logged into Canva, the author's name is automatically shown in the corner of the note.
6. Dragging a sticky note doesn't make the text larger. Instead, change the text size in the top toolbar.
7. Students can see a teacher's whiteboard as they add to it live. The teacher can click Share and change the collaboration link so that anyone with the link can view. Any edits can be seen as they happen.
8. Expand a slide into a whiteboard. Now you can annotate or add content on and around the slide in the flow of your teaching.
9. Use Canva as a bulletin board. With durations set for each slide, click to Present and choose AutoPlay. The slides will advance automatically and the slideshow plays on a continuous loop.
10. Students can make narrated storybooks! Use Canva elements to illustrate the pages. Then click Upload and record yourself to add audio to the design. Don't want to the video or icon to appear in the book? Set the transparency to zero.
11. Don't be afraid of Canva websites. It's like building a slideshow. In fact, a Canva Website is a single webpage where each section is actually a page in the design.
12. Canva websites resize on smaller screens. Click Preview and toggle to Mobile to see how your design is automatically reformatted for you.
13. You can remove the background of a video, and no green screen is required. But, the video can only be 30 seconds long. If you have a longer video, you could chunk it into 30 second sections and then play each section in sequence.
14. When students are collaborating on different pages within the same presentation, click into Grid video to see an overview of what's going on within the document.
15. Students can make a podcast in Canva using the recording studio. The script can be spread across pages, which is super helpful in the recording process.
16. Make stop motion videos. Add a photo to each page and set the page duration to less than a second.
17. Combine stop motion with drawing! Draw on a page. Duplicate. Change the drawing slight, duplicate the page, and so on.
18. Use the Drift animation to easily add a Ken Burns style effect. The subtle movement brings static images in your video to life.
19. Remove the background of a video. Then Create an animation to create a path for movement.
