I just got back from Washington DC. We didn't plan enough days. There's a lot to do there. We ended up staying in Bethesda which wasn't too bad but I'd also suggest staying downtown. I would suggest the bus tours, bring your walking shoes. Georgetown and Alexandria (Old Town) are a must. I drove around DC but would also suggest using the subway. The HEAT and humidity was INSANE! I was constantly sweating. Prepare.

I visited DC for the first time with my son last year on his football tournament away games. And those are only 2 days long. So we used whatever time we could to visit the important places I wanted to visit. Thankful for the electric scooter in town, it got us around faster as we had to chase time to catch our flight. But I am planning to go back and explore more and these tips are helpful. Thanks for sharing! ❤️

Visited DC a few years back and this is good advice as always Chris! We stayed near the WhiteHouse, the centre of DC was super clean although there were a few homeless around in the parks. I did feel 2-3 days was enough to see everything in DC though. We did all the museums, monuments, white house and a few restaurants (We are from UK).

I was recently in DC for 2 days and I managed without stress Lincoln Memorial, WW2 Memorial, White House, Capitol and even National Archives Museum. I was in the US on business and added 2 days of vacation, I'm from Germany. My absolute biggest tip for DC: Borrow the Lime electric scooters that are everywhere around. You can get to the various locations so quickly and easily, there are bike lanes everywhere that you can use and if you book a package, the price is also really unbeatable.

Great video with you two teaming up! I've been to DC twice, once during a 24 hr layover (summer) and another time for 3 days (late fall). I would say that we didn't do any of the mistakes mentioned in this video which feels awesome, except for the hotel one. We had a Hilton that was right by Dulles, but it was a pain getting into DC from that hotel. Even though the metro was super close and convenient, it took about an hour. Next time I go to DC, I definitely want to look more closely into the hotel locations! Despite that, I really love going to DC, it has this feeling that you won't feel anywhere else in the US

Mistake number 21 taking a cab or Uber from the airport or train station during the day. Metro's blue and yellow lines both stop at Washington National Airport, and BWI Airport is served by Amtrak and MARC trains for trips to Washington DC and the Baltimore light rail for trips into Baltimore. Dulles airport is finally served by the new 6 billion dollar silver line extension. For trips into Washington dc and the county bus system for shorter trips. Union Station is served by Metro's red line, the Washington circulater, and metro bus systems. Unless you arrive in DC after 11 p.m., you can't wait until 6 AM for the metro to get fully operational for the day. There's really no reason to call a cab or open the Uber app. The train grantees you will get to your destination way faster and for a lot less money.

I'm still amazed at how much of D.C. we did and saw in just one weekend when I went there with my 8th grade school trip. It doesn't seem logistically possible for a group of 50 teens to do all that, especially since we stayed out in Virginia by Tysons Corner. Last time I went to D.C. I stayed by DuPont Circle. I thought that was a great location.
@YellowProductions2 жыл бұрын

8th grade trips pack a ton into a small itinerary but the experience is very shallow. I saw a field trip itinerary recently that allocated 1.5 hours for "Smithsonian museums" and nearly fell over laughing.

As a native Washingtonian, I thought this was very informative… and as a Native, it's actually been ages since I did the tourist thing (last did the Washington Monument when I was 6, for example) so I was unaware of ticket requirements… I'd tack on one thing… #3, doing the Mall in one day… The misconcencepton “The Smithsonian” is A museum. Used to work on the mall (like 20-25 years ago), it was a Summer job, so yes, TONS of tourists, who would ask (pre-smartphones), “Where is the Smithsonian?” I'd then ask, “What are you trying to see?” and would get back… “the moon rock… and the Hope Diamond and several other things. People would than wilt in the heat when I would say over that was is Air & Space over there and in the opposite direction for the Natural History Musem, separate from the American History Museum… (Hit the nail on the head with Metro escalator rules!!! Few things define a native Washingtonian, so the joke goes, will cause ones blood boil more than someone standing on the left!!! *Especially* when the entire way up, everyone is standing on the right, and they fail to notice that right behind is a growing line of people waiting.)

I stayed at Crystal City and Uber'd to DC. Never too bad with traffic. Most of the Smithsonians were a big disappointment IMO. That is an absolutely PERFECT time to come to DC. The leaves are turning and are beautiful, but there are still roses and decorative flowers. The humidity is almost always gone and we have terrific weather. The animals at the zoo are more active in the cooler weather. There are lots of festivals and events on but smaller crowds than at Cherry Blossom season. Do wear layers, bring a hat, an umbrella, comfortable walking shoes, and sunscreen. Most of them I agree but not all sir.. If you having car then go to National Mall at late night or early morning to visit all monuments.. No need to walk you can park very close to each monument.. Hardly 5 to 10 people will be there and as it’s DC it’s secure at night.. I visited Lincoln memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Memorial, World War 2 Memorial & Peace Square.. All these open 24x7.. So if you go around 2AM then you will really enjoy your DC Trip..

I know I am currently scheduled to make mistake number one. I am staying in a Days Inn in Arlington. HOWEVER, the only reason why I did that was so that I could NOT make mistake number two! I am currently scheduled to stay for 14 full days. I stayed a week in New York City wasn’t nearly enough time so I figured I’d double it but there’s no way in HE double toothpicks that I could stay for two full weeks in someplace in town PLUS I need the roll in shower with two beds in the room and according to my research, I may be wrong. Somebody may be able to find something else, but the only two places that I can find that has both roll in shower AND two beds in the one room, is they Holiday Inn express right in the center of town which is $5000 or more OR the days in Arlington which is between $930 and $1100 depending on if I do nonrefundable which I went refundable

I've lived in Maryland just 30 mins outside of DC for 10 years. I love driving in and parking for free on the street on SUNDAY (there are some spots behind office buildings south of the mall) I take my two large dogs and walk the entire mall in about an hour. 5 days feels like it may be too long BUT the museums are worth it!! National History and National Gallery of Art (not the portrait gallery) are my favorites. It would be a very expensive trip for 5 days.
