They were still around when I was a kid. Our school trips, we’d eat at Horn & Hardart Automat in NYC. Went with my parents too. Usually had sandwiches & pie, the adults would also get coffee. They had hot meals in them as well. They closed in 1991. I loved putting the change is & opening the little door. There was a giant wall of food ,& drinks, to pick from.

I worked for this type vendor for a while. It was a lot of work. In the time period, there were many, competing for the same market. And plenty of customers switching to other vending companies like this, often enough. Some would switch because of poor service/ product. Others would switch because they figured they had butthole employees that thought vending machines should give you product just for pushing buttons. Some old machines you could steal from with a bent up wire hanger. Others you could steal from by knowing a sequence code on the keypad and start getting free product. Lots of companies/ schools deserve to be sued due of losses. Yes there are plenty of times the machine don't work right. But also plenty of times it's something else. There were companies going thru 3 vending companies a year. That's a lot considering contracts, swap periods, and possible legal actions. So the machine didn't work right. Or, some jerk pretends to put in money and complain they lost money, the point is breaking the glass, using a metal crowbar on the lock, throwing the machine down some stairs or off the dock shouldn't be the response to that. A little OBVIOUS isn't so much the machine that's the problem as it is the hotheaded and crime minded employees you have as a crew. ..But they're good workers Try telling that to the chamber of commerce cops and BBB. Great idea, vending machines. Like payphones though. Too friggin easy to ruin, too prone to people hacking. All because little crime minded G4 player thinks reality and video games are the same thing, or, punched in the head too many times, B-lets, thinks a vending machine and sparring partner are the same thing Good luck

I engineered a vending machine that would pour drinks of hard alcohol with mixers for my bar, but I never got to build it. It is called The Honest Bartender. You hand the bartender your money or credit card and she brings you your drink. The idea was to deter theft of product and the machines would be located behind the bar and biometrically equipped. The machines give correct change and there would be no cash register to steal from. The little 50ml bottles of hard alcohol was sold out of a vending machine for a while, but the cops swarmed me like ants to a picnic. The 500ml bottles could be vended also. There was no law against it as long as the public could not get to it. I even sold K2 from a machine for a while when it was legal. Either my products were there or the money was there. No more losses due to theft.

Japan leads the world in odd vending machines, though Abu Dhabi seems to be making a run for the title. There used to be vending machine cafe's in the U.S., they were called Vendomats, with the idea of making food available to people who worked night shifts, or went to night school. Unfortunately as anyone who ever ate at one of these during the 60's and 70's can attest the food selections were not the greatest quality, and depending upon who owned these machines were not really fresh. Though with some of these modern machines, it might be a good option for the above mentioned parties.

Usually older "business-men", while creepily staring at young school girls in uniform. Also, the banana vending machine was everywhere in 2000. Very common in "Vending Machine Marts" to have eggs, milk, bread, fruits, and vegetables. All very fresh. I was amazed by the variety. I loved the "Hot/Cold" machines too, where you could get a can of hot coffee from the same machine as a cold Coka Cola.

I just looked it up. We are talking about something that weighs 80 lbs and cost over $700. That is not something that I would think would be purchased from a vending machine.

Last car I bought, I walked into the dealer, pointed out the car I wanted and took out my check book. It was two hours later to complete the paperwork, registration, plates, insurance and all the other nonsense. If Carvana can do all of that behind the scenes, it would be worth it.

I could easily see something like a library doing the book vending machine thing and it all being connected to the internet in can check you out right there on the machine and Link the books to your card so it knows that you check them out and it would even allow you to return them to the vending machine when you were done with them. Obviously you're not going to get the same selection as you would in a big library but it would be a neat idea so that after hours you can go in front of the library and use your card read a book and then return it when you're done the only problem with the idea I could see is the cost I have no idea how much a bunch of vending machines like that would cost and would it be efficient use of library money since most libraries are a government program and are nonprofit

That gold dispensing vending machine is in Singapore. It shows our Merlion and the puregold.sg on the lcd panel. Yes it’s from the Emirates and I remembered seeing it before in Singapore and thinking it’s pretty interesting too.

Wow, that cotton candy vending machine is pretty cool, making the candy right in the machine. Here, in America, all you’d get is a pre-made ball of cotton candy, no stick, in a plastic bag that just says, Cotton Candy. No witty flavor names.
