I put my table saw, planer/thicknesser, router table and band saw all through a cyclone. I had a small one as you show but had issues. I would sometimes get a block in the 4” pipe from machine to the cyclone (usually the planer as you do produce a lot of chips). Also the small bucket used to fill up so often. Problems went away when I bought a large cyclone and larger bucket. So, if anyone has the same issues, don’t give up on the cyclone idea but you may need to go big. The cyclone takes out all the big stuff and my dust collector now only has that - dust - in it. As good as the cyclone is, it can only process what the dust extraction part on the machines captures. For me, that is good on the planer but terrible on the table saw. So, I have the Record Power air cleaner on for long periods to capture the airborne stuff. I also have a dust-in-the-air monitor to tell me what the pollution is like - very cheap (£20?) and useful. I got mine after seeing one on gosforth handyman several years ago.

Love my cyclone it works really well. I think i brought a 5m seally hose on amazon for about £10 if anyone needs a longer hose and still works well

Hoover is a trade name for a vacuum. You can’t have a Makita Hoover! Great vid though!

Ahhh I've always called it a hoover lol, vacuum sounds a bit American lol Ah cheers for the kind feedback 😊👍👍👍

I’ve got a similar cyclone. However, biggest issue I found was getting the right connectors to connect hoses from it to a vac and and to machines. This one seems to come with quite a few connectors so may be better.

I just used random pipes and connectors I had lying around, had some pvc down pipe I used too 👍

What did you use to stick the mdf reinforcement to the lid? caulk?
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop7 ай бұрын
As far as I remember without watching the video back, is that I screwed through the top of the cyclone flange, then through the paint lid and into the mdf below. Basically screwed them together like a sandwich and then no glue needed. Use can you wood off cuts or anything really underneath, it's just something to screw into. Cheers ryan

By the time you have plumbed in all the extraction for your bench, you're going to have a lot of loses in the system. So you're going to need something much beefier than a shop vac. Also, you want the collection container to be round, a box is far less efficient.
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'll try and keep that in mind with the shape of the box. I have valves for all my extraction so if for example I'm using the table saw I'll have all the valves for the power tools and chopsaw etc off so I should have good suction 👍

I use mine on top of a dewalt tough box. It works great. Just attaches to the top of the box with 2 wingnuts. Store the cyclone and extra hoses and attachment inside the box to move from site to site. Its the DS 400 so loads of capacity, nothing reaches the festool midi extractor. I find the Henry 5m stretch hose (about a £10 on ebay) works great along with the dewalt airlock fittings. Straight swap over with left handed thread on the hose. Also with the tough box, the sides don't cave in when you get a blockage. Easy to empty as well flip the 2 catches and tip it in the skip. Boom, job done. (had to fit a self adhesive foam draft strip around the lid of the box to get it fully airtight) I also butchered a telescopic wand and floor head from a Dyson, so it fits in the box. As you can imagine its all a bit of a Frankenstein set up. lol

Lol I moved from a blue drum to a 20l paint tin so it would fit under the bench, shame Fein baffles aren't as popular in the UK as they are smaller profile better for under bench.
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop3 жыл бұрын
I just googled that, seems smaller, and looks like you can make something similar from ply and pipes. I might just have to do that!

I will, really would like a smaller cyclone so I think I will give it a go soon!
@samrix57933 жыл бұрын
@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop yeah it's always been a pain, I did consider making a box the right size but paint tin works ok. I use one on the chop saw and have 100mm nah extractor for table saw and planer which make the most dust. Then use a festool midi direct for sanding as not as much dust but should get the cyclone set up for it all again really

I'm guessing you mean 'Thien Baffle'? just looking this up, seems like a good DIY solution.
