4:10 yes the foam filter breaking up can cause damage. The foam blows its way down into the check valves that let the air flow into the exhaust system and can either block them closed (check engine light and trac light + error code P2441) or get them stuck closed (I believe P2440ish?) Regardless, blocked closed isn't too big of a problem, but if they get blocked open then your engine can blow hot exhaust back up through the secondary air system and burn it all up.

@vikingveteran2 жыл бұрын
As long as the filter is kept clean and oiled it will keep out any particles that could effect your truck. Also the whole point of this mod is to keep the filter for deteriorating and getting sucked up through your pump into your engine. The secondary air pump only comes on for mear minutes during start up and that is all. It is just used to improve emissions.

Pretty much yeah. Plan for the worst hope for the best. I really think this would only be needed if that filter ever starts to break down. I just dont know when that is and I plan on keeping this truck till it rusts apart. Were also Toyota would pay to fix it as long as you were within the extended warranty. So you always have that.

What does it save you money on? Gas mileage?
@vikingveteran Жыл бұрын
No, it doesn't. It only saves you if when the filter falls apart, it doesn't mess up your intake or injectors. The secondary air pump is only good for emissions on startups. And to remove it, you will need a 200$ part to keep you check engine light off
@vram19742 жыл бұрын
The 1GRFE must be the dirtiest running gasoline engine to need 4 damn cat converters and all this other crap bolted on. What do they think is coming out of the exhaust, cyanide?
@vikingveteran2 жыл бұрын
I know right. If they took off all the emissions crap we could get better gas mileage. In turn that would help alot of problems. Well except big oil
@vram19742 жыл бұрын
@@vikingveteran Has anyone tested emissions levels on modern engines with no emissions equipment attached? I know the core mechanics of a combustion engine haven't changed,.but still curious what comes out of the exhaust. Bare minimum, test only with one cat installed.
@vikingveteran2 жыл бұрын
@@vram1974 I'm sure they have. I know emissions are laced in the UK and they work harder for milage instead. But I wish I had the means to test all that. That would be a fun test to do. We don't do emissions testing in my state so it's rare to see the equipment. I have only messed with the tester once

I have a 20007 Taco with 4.0 V6 and it doesn't have your configuration, seems that it doesn't have this 2nd air filter. You did mention respond to the same question from another person and indicated by the base of the washer tank. Sorry bud, but nothing there as well. I have been over the compartment twice and even ask the local mechanic that watched the video. He said my Taco doesn't have a secondary filter as described and shown in your video. So, that is why I ask the question to you. And yes, he checked the washer tank location as well to ensure that I am not missing it. There is none.

Thats strange. Every tacoma should have one. Did you buy yours new or used?

My 2005 trd off road does not have this. Bought new.

@@vikingveteran I bought it used, but there is not even hoses or bolt/screw holes in the area that matches the location on my truck. So I am wondering if it is only on the earliest 4.0 V6 models and not the later.

Sorry new to fixing my own truck! But how exactly does this save money? Is it for fuel economy? Would my ‘06 Tacoma need it done?
@vikingveteran3 жыл бұрын
No need to be sorry. The way it saves you money is. If the original filter in the secondary air pump falls apart. It is going to get sucked up through the pump destroying it. Then traveling into you engine. This will not save on anything. But is just a preventative measure you take to save on unnecessary damages due to a cheap filter. Yes your 06 tacoma could use this.
@dannywitt6483 Жыл бұрын
2005-2011 don’t have secondary air filter. This was an emissions addition at 2012 .
