Many celebrities prefer no markers for a few reasons, in my experience: 1. They want privacy in death after being in the public for years. 2. They don't want their grave to a pilgrimage site (religious tones). This is a bit like #1statement. 3. Family or estate can't afford a "dignified" marker. Thi iss touched on by the graveyard centered channels. Steve has commented on this phenomenon a few times.
@JayYoung-ro3vu11 ай бұрын
The KZbin channel "Hollywood Graveyard has bought markers for the unmarked graves of celebrities (with family, heir, or legal permission) over the years. Most recently, one was finding the long lost urn containing the cremains of Ed Wynn. His urn had gotten misplaced and interred in another vault at Chapel of the Pines. It was found through a catalogging process of the private, non-public vaults. With family permission and viewer donations, Mr. Wynn's urn has a space in one of the columbariums at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Great work! Thanks for highlighting those unmarked celebrities and those who have been cremated. It's amazing the number of celebrities who want to be in unmarked graves, cremated with no place to visit, and those in privately held graves. Thanks also for getting the word out about actor Michael Dolan's headstone project. I also didn't know about searching Amazon for headstones. I have a family member who is in an unmarked grave. Hi Steve, I learned about your videos from Kris Peterson, Serenity Sue and Grave Visitations. I knew most of the people that you mentioned in your video. Some I understand why they were unmarked, others I am sure they just didn't have the funds to buy a marker. I was surprised by Steve Allen. By the time he had passed, I don't know how many people would have made the journey to find him. He was a remarkable talent. I wonder if Steve Allen's wife, Jayne Meadows has an unmarked grave. She was a very talented actress. I would recommend people to join the group to provide a headstone for Michael J Dolan's grave. The 1951 version of The Christmas Carol is my favorite. Thank you again Steve.

Some families don’t want to have to share their ones after they are gone like they had to in life. They want the persons grave kept sacred. Some people are worried about treasure hunters, theft and Vandalism. The fact Elvis had to be moved to Graceland due to a theft attempt is reason enough to leave the grave unmarked or make it private in other ways

Jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie who was known for his bent trumpet and songs like “A Night in Tunisia” and “Salt Peanuts”. British Inventor Richard Trevithick who invented the first Steam Locomotive, Actor and Comedian Sid Caesar who was known for his variety shows “Your Show of Shows” and “Caesar’s Hour”. He also played the role of Coach Calhoun in “Grease” and the role of Melville Crump in “It’s a Mad ,Mad, Mad, Mad, World”. Great video Steve. I would like to add that actor Lon Chaney, Sr. is buried in an unmarked crypt in the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Ca. He is in an area where you can visit his crypt if you know how to look for it. Also something interesting is that when actor Errol Flynn died in 1959 his widow would not put a marker on his grave. Two of Flynn's daughters had a marker placed I believe in 1979, but not sure the date.

I had the misfortune of working for someone in state government who was a megalomaniac and crooked. He was very disliked by those who reported to him. When he died, his spot in his family plot is unmarked, and the cemetery office denies that he is even buried there. My supposition about why some celebrities prefer to have unmarked graves is that their lives, in many cases, have been very public. So much of what they have done is known by everyone. An unmarked grave gives them peace from the prying eyes and reserves something just for them and their family. Another unmarked grave, or at least the actual whereabouts are not known to the public, is Steve Irwin, who is buried somewhere, supposedly, within the Australia Zoo. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you so much for all you do to provide us with such quality content. Blessings.

I think that in 50% (or more) of the cases like this, familial apathy or contempt are the reasons for no headstone. However, at other times, I'm certain that utter privacy is the motivation. Personally, I feel that everyone that receives a traditional burial, warrants a granite or bronze marker.

Here in Germany, one can be buried anonymously. That means no headstone, buried in a section of plots with other anonymous graves. This is a possibility to save relatives money and effort to upkeep the grave (which they are required to do here). It is for these reasons that, in most cases, the deceased themselves request anonymous burial.

Debbie (my late wife) was able to determine Steve Allen's gravesite when the location was not originally publicized (I then added that info to FindAGrave), and she also learned simultaneously that the apparent reason why the plot remains unmarked was due to a dispute, or some other kind of disagreement, w/i the surviving family members circle, this despite the fact that the interment space of his spouse, Jayne Meadows (to his right side), is replete w/ one (go fig). The movie mogul, Samuel Goldwyn, also rests adjacent to the aforementioned film director George Cukor, and who therefore also is devoid of a memorial tablet. Folks such as film actors Spencer Tracy and Paul Walker, and singer/songwriter Bill Withers, only have their last names which are inscribed on small marble plaques to identify those landmarks as well (meaning no headstones). Auntie appeared w/ Denver Pyle in an episode of the TV western series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp".

Thuy Trang was cremated after her death, and it is unknown what actually happened to her ashes - they were either buried or scattered at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Since there is no marker for her at the park (not even a cenotaph), I guess she belongs on this list until someone proves that her ashes actually are buried there... but that is very unlikely to ever happen.

Hi I just discovered your channel and your very respectful and I watch another thing like this called Hollywood graveyard and I actually found my late cousins grave on his show my cousin was actress Linda Darnell..she was my grandpas second cousin and he knew her well it was surreal but kinda cool he visited her grave I'm pretty sure she has a headstone but I'm liking your videos too your almost as enjoyable as that gentleman and certainly as polite anyway if you ever find yourself visiting Linda Darnell feel free to put some flowers on it if you want I know my mom who knew her as a kid wouldn't mind her dad if alive would probably Be happy were in Tx where she's from but she's buried in Pennsylvania with other famous and not famous folk but I think that's wonderful what you and the others are doing for Mr Dolan and I hope you all achieve it and take care and God bless and safe travels and merry Christmas..ps please excuse my lack of punctuation I can't see too well
