My grandmother made a sour cream raisin pie that I never hear mentioned. That will always be one of my favorites.

My Mom owned a cafe in a small town, she made sour cream raisin pies, too. She made so many pies from ingredients that the locals would bring her.she was an incredible South Texas cook, so you can imagine how devious her pies were…many , many pies.😊

Did it have a meringue top? If so, do you have the recipe? My mom made it, and I'd love to make it.

Who’s grandmothers made these pies? Mine made regular pies. Apple, cherry, and plum are three I remember. They had incredible crusts. My mom said it’s because she used lard instead of shortening. My mom also used to make raisin pie and cranberry pie. I tried making cranberry pie once but the berries stayed whole. If I try it again I’ll make cranberry sauce then put it in the crust to bake.

Wasn’t that lucky, the best I got though was a coconut custard and cornmeal pie. Wasn’t bad at all and we all drank coffee with this. The coffee seemed to enhance the taste

My mom grew rhubarb for pies and she made a lot of them although they were straight rhubarb, no strawberries or custard in hers. I didn’t enjoy it but I’d eat a piece anyway because I didn’t want to hurt her feelings since she put love into everything. R.I.P. Mom 💕

My father's two favorite pies were his mom's strawberry rhubarb, which my mom wouldn't make because she hated rhubarb, and my mom's lemon meringue pie. Her meringue was fantastic. Her butterscotch pie was my favorite.
