Actually many of the sandwiches I knew from this were made by older ladies at church. I miss them and the food they made with hope,kindness, and graciousness. Many in the community were not well to do and these wonderful ladies would make a variety of food every Sunday for everyone - especially the children.

Mock chicken at home was always made with chick peas bcs they have a slight chicken-y taste

Beef tongue is actually a very expensive delicacy. The best meat I've ever had (I had wagyu beef as well) is smoked beef tongue. It was melting in my mouth. If the chance is given to try it, no one should say no it! Although I would eat all of these sandwiches because I am not picky or fussy. Peanut butter is not something I grew up with, (I am not from the U.S.A) but I would never turn down that gorgeous bacon sandwich with peanut butter in it. @gabrielbernard5440
@gabrielbernard5440 12 күн бұрын
i guess it is if you want more of a meat paste. if you want chunks, just chop it. but to stretch it out more with mayo and everything and still have the taste of ham, it was ground down very fine. same thing my grandma did with meats, and saving the bacon fat from frying to give it more taste. then add lots of fillers so the meaty taste would last for a few days instead of a few meals.

I don't think some of these sandwiches have faded into history. It depends on how you eat it. Take the Chicken & Cranberry Sandwich. I make my own Chicken & Cranberry recipe...but I have it in salad form which makes a great salad to eat on hot days. And the Potted Meat sandwiches. My niece actually got me to rediscover Potted Meat sandwiches...but with a soft Hawaiian Bread roll (or dinner roll) and mayonaise. That said, here's a favorite that isn't mentioned - Fried Bologna sandwich with Cheese and Fried Egg. I actually taught this to my nephews sons and they make it as a quick fix breakfast sandwich.

Why are they over complicating everything?? (and these are still current pretty much everywhere). You have leftover meatloaf?? Toast a bun or slices of bread, slap on a slice (hot or cold), maybe a squirt of ketchup. Done. Bologna (which despite the low price is a comfort food high fat treat to me lol). Slap a few slice in a plate, nuke for 2 min. Put on Bun or bread. DONE. And for super easy, I've seen them sell ham salad & deviled egg salad at my market, If inspired, you combine the two. And my favorite chicken salad includes cranberries & almonds. Have some in the fridge right now. My current fav is Aldi's but you can get it in most markets & it comes and goes at Costco seasonally. So much for "long gone sandwiches." And anyone but Mr. Obnoxious Computer voice think that a "Fried chicken liver sandwich" is more popular today than the ones I mentioned?!? Nope!

It was called minnow cheese when I was growing up. I thought it included minnows until I learned to read and saw the word pimiento.

I can't eat any of the ones that contain mayo (can't do seed oils in my diet, and I find it generally disgusting anyway) , but a mayo-free version of a few of them might work for me.

do not forget the internet is millions of people, so with the few here answering they know of these sandwiches, compared to the overall population of the US, that is hardly a blip on the radar. So even if it is still popular in some areas, or people know it from their family and church groups, they are still faded compared to when everyone knew them or had them

My parents bought potted meat, with mayo and relish it was probably like the bologna salad sandwich. I posted this before the potted meat sandwich came up. After WW2, my father worked for Armour meat packing. He said it took him years before he would eat hot dogs, bologna, or potted meat. He said it was because he saw what went into them. And also, we're from Georgia.

My father ate weird sandwiches. Mayonnaise, peanut butter and Banana. Also Pinto Beans Cold with Onion. 8 kids in their family so whatever they could put between bread worked for them. I still eat Potted Meat and Mayo sandwiches. The little cans make good emergency kit meals and for camping and hiking.

A properly made meatloaf sandwich heats the slices in a little butter or oil. Mayo on the first slice of white bread bread, ketchup on the other. Place sauteed slices on the bread and enjoy.
