I will never stop praising the programmers of a lot of these early games. They were amazing guys to cram so much in to so little resource. Who needs gigabytes of memory for decent playability!? I used to play a game that I think was called 'Roboty' but it probably had another name. It was the best game of mayhem I remember. It was obviously ported from something else but it stood out as being different.

I loved Strykers Run on the Electron. I was amazed to find out this was an early Chris Roberts game, the same Chris Roberts that is currently trying to squeeze every last penny out of backers for his Star Citizen game. Hes (conned) raised $210+ million over 6 years and the game is still an unplayable mess of a tech demo haha!!!

Awesome stuff. I owned all the originals of these, apart from Revs, Podd and Camelot (not heard of the last 2). Happy days and several of those surely still stand up today. I've got Repton on my Android in fact. Not too sure on 1984's Football Manager though, hah. Gonna dust down the ELK and give some of these a bash again. I'm pretty lucky that I can: a) play the originals on the Electron using the original tapes b) play the originals on the Electron using an SD card and ROMs c) play the ROMS via emulation on our PC d) don't bother - is something I'm gonna avoid. Thanks for the reminders. : )

I can't believe I didn't have Elite as a kid. I hadn't even heard of it until about ten years ago. I think I would still be playing it to this day! Imogen was one of my favourite games for the BBC Micro. We had that and Frak and Chucky Egg, Repton, and Castle Quest which I'd completely forgotten about until this.

Elite shown in this video is the BBC Micro version since it has color, while the Electron could only show black & white in its hi-res mode. And Exile shown here is also the Micro version since it uses the whole screen; the Electron version has garbage screen data around the edges since some of the screen memory had to be used for game code.

Please change the title of this video. These are '20 BBC micro games'. Some of these games were badly reviewed in the day and are an embarrassment even then E.g. Overdrive the racing game does not even have any bends in the road and was poorly received. Games like Thrust and Way of the Exploding Fist are C64 ports and are not any better, at all. Games like Starship Command, Revs and Elite *are* good choices as they were unique or first out on the BBC Micro. (Elite on a BBC Micro is fast). Podd ? Podd ?? What possessed you to put that up here ? If someone is doing historical research try and get the reviews at the time to see what games are seen as special. This video has some good inclusions and some aberrations.

dreamcastII thrust originated on acorn platform and was subsequently ported to C64 etc. It had excellent gameplay and game physics.
@lordevyl8317

Thrust was NOT a port (Yes Barbarian was originally coded on the C64) However Thrust was originally coded on the BBC Micro. It was commercially released on the C64 first, but that doesn't mean shit. Thrust was originally coded by Jeremy South on the BBC micro. It's just that the C64 version was available for SALE first. It was NOT a "port" of a C64 game. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrust_%28video_game%29
