@Liremuse Жыл бұрын
It was easy to get adult humor under the radar in the 80s and 90s. As for disney doing it, they need to make the movies appealing to adults as well,who are forced to rewatch a mind numbing childrens movie over and over.

One that I totally remember never understanding as a kid but understanding now as an adult but hardly ever gets mentioned is a certain joke is in the 1951 Alice in Wonderland. When Alice ate a mushroom that made her so huge and she ended up disturbing a bird’s nest, the bird called her “servant” but she rebuked back saying she’s a little girl “I mean I was.” And the bird then says “I don’t suppose you lay eggs either?” Alice goes “Actually, yes I do.” Kids don’t understand what that means but adults who understand female anatomy sure do. Nice hidden joke there. Guess Alice was given “the talk” at a very young age
@kenmclemore523 Жыл бұрын
Actually, the bird shouted "serpent", which brings its own connotation to the scene; but the point of the mushrooms is a direct hint the story is from a mushroom-induced trip experienced by the author, Lewis Carroll. Jefferson Airplane later commented on the "trip" connection in the song "White Rabbit"... "One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small... and, the pills your mother gives you don't do anything at all... go ask Alice, when she's 10 feet tall..." KDM
@ChibiProwl Жыл бұрын
Okay....😅I never caught THAT joke.😅
@TCWRebelsResistanceWords Жыл бұрын
@@kenmclemore523oh is that what it was? “Serpent?” It’s been so long since I’ve seen that movie. Plus due to the way the bird said it, it sound like she said “servant” instead of “serpent.” That’s one reason why I like having subtitles/captions on. That and because turning up the volume isn’t always an option when you’re bedroom is next to your extremely vocal autistic brother. Plus, I’ve never read the Alice in Wonderland books as a kid, I only saw the original Disney movie constantly as a kid, the 1999 TV movie constantly as a teen since there was a border terrier dog in the movie and we had just gotten a border terrier as a pet at that time (a few days ago we lost our second border terrier dog Bindi at nearly 14 years old) and I only saw the 2010 & 2016 Tim Burton Disney remakes once. But I have NEVER read the books

The live action 101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close was the only one I’ve ever seen as a kid. I’ve seen bits of pieces of the animated original, but never in its entirety. Thanks to me watching films constantly as a kid, I can recite MOST movie lines word-for-word and that helped me understand many of the hidden adult jokes as I got older. But due to my ADHD and Asperger’s, I often have a hard time understanding sarcasm, so when Cruella made that joke about Roger being a “busy boy,” I thought it was because he was busy keeping up with his video game designing career while trying to get his house ready for both the new baby and the new puppies. Wasn’t until I saw this video that I truly understand what she really meant. It STILL amazes me how they can allow these kinds of jokes in kids movies!!!
