Thanks so much for this video! A friend's child had forced THREE discs into her optical drive and the clicking sound was driving her nuts, let alone the fact that she didn't know if it would ever work again. Your step by step tutorial enabled me to remove the drive, shake out the jammed discs and return things to normal. Much love!

Are the suction cups absolutely necessary, or can you pry the glass off with your fingers?

i am concerned i might have placed the cables in opposite slots to the ones they were originally in since my display has some funny glitching pixels on the side and dotted randomly ever since reassembling and turning the mac on...can you help?

DSEPH it might be the inverter cables on 3:27. I’m waiting on an answer from OWC in regards. I had no problem so far when re assembled..but it may be the color codes of the two pairs in the LCD. Notice that on the board, there are 4 gray cables, while each pair of the inverter cable are red and blue.maybe it’s not the problem, or maybe I just got lucky. Really curious about this..

The inverter pair connectors on 3:27 have different coloring codes on the LCD, but on the board it has only four gray colors. Does it matter how you re connect them back when re assembled.? Thanks!

I took a black marker and marked only one of the two (on the male and female parts) on the set below and then did the same to the set on the top. You only need to mark one set of plugs because the ones without the marks will obviously attach to each other. I wasn't sure myself whether this mattered or not but this way I am guaranteed to reconnect the same plugs I detached.

Mondo 357 I have put it back together after installing a second drive caddy and all is well. Actually OWC CS says the color codes don’t really matter at all but I did mark them to be sure.

@@guitarontheflipside596 That is good to hear and that's actually good information to know as well. I used an original drive that I found on eBay so I was able to essentially just do a flip. But if it wasn't for this video, I would have been forced to drop it off at an Apple store, which I didn't want to do. I paid $8.99 for an original Apple optical drive with free shipping and got it in 2-days! That's a lot better than the several hundred bucks the Apple store was going to charge me!

Mondo 357 Great! Yea, luckily enough this model is one of the easier iMac models to swap a drive. I actually put an SSD in the caddy and booted the iMac to it. The stock HDD serve as a storage drive. The iMac runs 10 times faster now. The iMacs become harder to upgrade as they become slimmer, but this one is upgrade friendly considering..it was so dusty upon opening it i had to vacuum it for like five minutes..lol.
