You're a better than me mate 😂 I'm Irish and I love watching England get beat. The only thing I love more than watching England lose is to see Ireland win. That being said, Jonny Wilkinson is up there with my favourite players ever. That lad was/is an amazing ambassador for the game. Gutted he never really got a standout moment for the British and Irish Lions. In '01 he was probably still a bit inexperienced and then in '05 he was ravaged by injuries. Hell of a player though. I'm 30 and I was lucky enough to watch him in his prime and I wish I'd appreciated it more. He's definitely the best 10 the Northern Hemisphere has ever produced. By a country mile.

@@leighfrench2007 probably not. He was wrong about the time, but more than ten seconds had passed since he said it, and they were still nowhere near ready to make the throw. It takes way longer than ten seconds to set up a lineout, so they shouldn't have gone for it anyway.

@@jhnekdn at 9:57, they're just walking around and not even trying to throw a lineout yet. At this point, even if he was right about the time, and even if everyone was ready for the lineout, if the ball hadn't been thrown in yet, that would be full time. Ten seconds was nowhere near enough time. Even if they had twenty, they probably still wouldn't have got the throw off in time, unless everyone _on both teams_ sprinted into position and the ball was thrown in immediately. To be honest, the ref probably said ten seconds because he didn't know exactly how much time they had, but wanted to make it clear that they didn't have enough time for a lineout. They didn't have enough time and he didn't say they did. He didn't even imply it.

The ref had no ability to consult the TMO and he made a call based on what he saw in real time, which is quick and dynamic. Just because it didn’t go your way in one moment, don’t blame the ref - that’s the nature of competition. It was a tight game - why must Scotland rely on the ref to bail them out? Arguably, Scotland shouldn’t have been in the Quarters - they almost lost their last pool game and would have done so had the final try not been awarded as it clearly had a knock on by Laidlaw seconds before the score that put them ahead. Fine margins.
@Bucketheadhead
@Bucketheadhead 3 жыл бұрын
Deano Zumrap There’s no relying on the ref to bail them out genius, it’s relying on the ref to officiate the game to an international standard. The fact that the ref literally fled the pitch before shaking hands with the players at the final whistle tells you everything you need to know. He fucked up.
@deansisqoxv20
@deansisqoxv20 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bucketheadhead maybe he fucked up, which is to say he made a mistake. This happens in a dynamic situation. Blame the laws if they are not up to scratch, not the individual. The ref is relied on to officiate the game to the LAWS, not to an arbitrary standard that satisfies the whims of whichever aggrieved nation. What happens if he checks with the TMO, when at the time the laws did not allow him to? Then the Australians would have been the once whingeing about improper application of the laws. Blaming the ref is scapegoating - if you can't win the game without relying on the bounce of the ball or a ref putting his thumb on the scale in your favor, then you're just not good enough.
@Bucketheadhead

@jamesrautha162
@jamesrautha162 3 жыл бұрын
@@mr.meeseeks3074 Would have to disagree with you here! It's the tacklers responsibility to get his head in the right place - as the attacking player you are within your rights to try to bump/fend off any tackles whilst staying on your feet. I totally agree it can be dangerous but pretty much everything in rugby *can* be dangerous. With regards to intentionally hurting the other player... I don't know. I think he's just trying to stay on his feet and get over the gain line as most players would do. Even in a world where he was intentionally battering the opposition that alone isn't really against the rules - I mean, take Courtney Lawes for example - he's made a career out absolutely smashing people. I'm sure he's 'hurt' a lot of players however all within the laws of the game and whilst playing well. Rugby is a physical game! That's part of it's draw, I think. Skill/ambition/physicality - all has to come together.

@M'Luds Ladies & Gentlemen here the issue, nowadays sure its a red pretty much every day of the week. I'm not going to argue with that. But in that tournament several challenges like that had gone in and had been deemed just penalties or at worst yellow. You basically had to deliberately drive the guys head into the floor to get a red for a tip tackle at that time. There was so much precedent for what that tackle should have been yet the ref decided to go one step further than anyone would have at the time. Its why the decision was and still is so controversial. You could even argue back in the day they should have all been reds. but the point is they weren't. Tip tackles simply weren't refed that way for Sam to cop a red for what was arguably the least dangerous tip tackle at that world cup (again none of the others were worse than a yellow, most were just penalties) was in my view an awful decision.

Well, that 2011 one where South Africa was knocked out by the dodgy officiating (the sheer amount of dodgy calls made in one match made me wonder if the ref wasn't bought or had money on Australia, or even some kind of match fixing situation) was horrible, as they seemed to have peaked for that world cup, and were by all accounts by far the better team on the field. In the SA v AB game at RWC 2019, Reece makes a break and passed the ball back inside to A Smith. The ball was caught a good 2-3 metres in front of where it was passed from and it was never referred. @alganhar1

Tackle like that while an offence was not a red card at that time, and remember that, at that time. There had been other similar tackles during the tournament, many of them worse, that had led to a penalty and at worst a yellow card. For the ref to go straight for a red in those circumstances bearing in mind the rules at the time was pretty outrageous. Would it be a straight red these days? Sure, but not then. And that's the point that needs to be remembered. It's almost as if the referee decided on his own initiative to change the tackle rules without bothering to inform anyone else at all about his decision. Look at the 2019 World Cup in Japan for example. Tackle rules were changed for that but they were announced WELL in advance. Everyone knew what those changes were. In Warburton's case it was one official deciding off his own back to chnage the tackle rules arbitrarily without bothering to inform anyone that he had done so.

Mad that a former Irish Government minister (Willie O'Dea) was in this clip saying how harsh it was. I have had serious rows with pals about Johnny Sexton missing a kick that would have moved us out of sight in that 2013 game, I won't hear bad words spoken about Sexton. Warburton's not English, and while it's not a controversial decision by today's standards, it was very controversial at the time - especially considering Warburton had made two similar tackles in the quarter-final. @@richardscanlan3167 According to the referee on the day, he didn't. Same as Reuben Kruger did not score a try against the All Blacks in the final. Maybe if we had had the TMO back then it would have been different, but even then, by today's standards, the on field decision would have been vitally important in both cases, so what makes you think you know better than Derek Bevan? At least he was a good referee, unlike the one who "controlled" the game we were discussing here... No, buddy, seriously dodgy is when your referee gets rid of the only real opposition for you so you give him the referee of the year award. You can be a cunt if you want and point as many fingers as you like at South Africa, but never forget that the All Blacks' shit also stinks.

@stone686970
@stone686970 3 жыл бұрын
He lifted the legs yes, the hips went above the torso, JUST, but he dropped him on his back and not neck or head. Plus Clerc is a pissant so there is argument that there was never intention to lift him dangerously, he is 5 stone lighter than warburton. And Clerc came off the tackle ok which is another indication to the severity of the tackle. Yellow card would have been fair enough but red, way way too harsh, especially at the beginning of a world cup semi final that Wales would have won if they had 15 men on the ground. Thats why its controversial.
